Default Earl's testimonial

I had to take my headers off for the Steeroids install. They've leaked since I bought the car so I thought I would button them up with copper gaskets. STILL leaked with the coppers. My header flanges must not be flat, which would explain why I had to scrape gasket sealer from the heads last month. I remember you guys saying how good Earl's gaskets were so I ordered a set for the headers and collectors. Kinda pricey stuff...bottom line was like $80 for the gaskets and some cheap Summit ss collector bolts...was hoping they'd be worth it. Well, I put them on tonite and no leaks at all. Nowhere, headers or collectors. Great stuff, I'd recommend them to anyone with warped header flanges.

I've had my Earl's exhaust gaskets installed for about 18 months and have not had any leaks nor have the bolts come loose. I am also sold on their exhaust gaskets.

worked for me, especially nice since you can buy the inserts seperately to save a little money if you have to have the headers off for some reason.

Just fired mine up today with Earl's gaskets and Percy's collector gaskets. I never had a leak before because most leaks are caused by the bolts backing out and I safety wired my bolts the day I installed my headers....I just wanted some extra insurance.

I dunno, I seen so many headers installs over the years on all sorts of cars, and so it seems they are all made on the cheap...there is basically NO excuse on any car for anything less than a 3/8 flange, and the mating surface to be as flat as the cast iron systems GM supplied...needing NO gaskets at all in most cases....

the devil is in the construction details....I think the header makers need do some work on the obvious quality problems in their product line....
even the routing of the tubes is all screwed up IMO...just NO excuses for some of that crap like short plugs to keep from burning wires...trying to make do with crappy designs that should have been worked out in the prototype stages, instead of committing to production with some half=assed design.....

far as I"m concerned, let them get it right.....time to start returning this crap for what it is...maybe then they can get it right.....

Now the only set of headers I have seen that are on my car now, and do not sufffer from these problems is Schoenfeld #151......come with heavy flat flange, no leaking....1/58 or 1 3/4 tubes, your choice, fit any SB head....
routing is such that wiring, plugs, steering, accessories are not affected....
ONLY problem I did find was on my set the collector was too close to my large old heavy duty stock starter, maybe a smaller unit would have been nicer, but I just split the 4 tubes bent the header stack to the outside and rewelded the entire stack....
OH the price....yeh, man 150 bux max list....135 typical cost....
plus coating done locally.....another 150 bux....
