Say you got a 350/300hp old engine, and you wanted to rebuild it....what exact heads, cam, intake, pistons, and other stuff would you go with?? especially if you want something to sound mean and run on pump gas at the same time?

Check out my homepage. I have a link to my engine page as well as the best engine combo page out there. This guy has hundreds of published and tested engine combos. It's part of what helped me come up with mine.

Not following what you want to do here, if you want a 300HP motor that's pretty simple rebuild any 350 put in flat top pistons a CC270H cam and your there or pretty close. :D

I would say it would depend on what final out come you want. If you are going for a numbers matching deal, attempting to look factory stock etc, or just to get a car running to just drive.
I have built a few chevy motors over the years. I like to use quality parts and go through everything, never skimp at any point. But, now if I just want a good running performer and not worried about number matching, I will buy a crate motor from Chevy. Cheaper, quicker and even comes with a waranty. LT1, ZZ3, zzz4 or go crazy and get ZZ430! What ever. I just dont think that I will rebuild a SB chevy again, unless it has to be a show car. Not likely. I would rather drive and enjoy the car.

I'm gathering the parts for my 75 to duplicate the 70 LT1 motor,,already have the original cam in the GM tube,,,the heads are on E-bay for about $300 all the time,,intake is easy,,so is the Holley carb,,all can be found on E-Bay,,the Lt1 was an awesome street motor and 370 HP is enough for me!

383, roller cam, 10.1 compression, aluminum heads, air gap intake, 750 Edelbrock, headers and good quality parts (bearings, gaskets, bolts).

If it were me, for that car, I'd rebuild it back to stock. Where is Olivier's "beating the dead horse" smiley when I need it?

Solids can easily be maintained by keeping the revs down, using poly locks, only put about 3000 on the car a year, the maintenance on solid lifters is highly exaggerated,,,been there done that!!!

At the bottom, on the right hand side, click on "My engine page."
Also, there is a link below that, for engine combos.

I would build the 11:1 350 destroker from a car mag a few years back. Take a 400 SBC block, use f*rd rods, badabing, 350ci, 11:1, 87 octane...400ish HP.

Sto*k is a bad word to me.
Assuming the 69 4 spd., HE268H is the Min. cam & XE268 the Max. w/o rebuild, balance & blueprint. HE268H is max. for stock valve springs & good for over 300 HP (even w/ Action+ intake) w/ good exhaust. Many good heads are available.
W/ headers you could run HE270H for example. TRW forged & Al. non egr intake.

for the street
a fuel injected 355 with 9.5 or 10-1 compression and ported everything along with a singleplane intake if i could fit it under the hood.
for the track or street w/ race gas
side pipes
a fuel injected or davinci carburated 355 or roller cammed 383
tunnel ram with the injecters seated in that instead of those converted carb units
A really big blower
side pipes
the above are given i had the money, which i dont, cause if i did id have a 427
