Default Is it possible to rebuild an HEI?

I know that all of the eletronics and stuff can be changed, but does anyone make a bushing and bearing kit? I just want to try it for experience sake. Thanks.

I rebuilt mine last year. Bought a kit with a new felt and shims for the gear. Not hard to do at all. It was really full of crud when I started. I also replace the module, coil, rotor, cap, while I was there.

Where did you get the kit? Is there a part number or company that you could hook me up with? Thanks

I'm almost positive I got it from NAPA, but in any case it was one of the local parts houses. You might try Summit (Summit is local for me so maybe it was there - try the online catalog) or Jeggs if your locals don't have it.

If I had known these things were rebuildable (duh, I know), I would have kept mine instead of buying an Accel Performance replacement in 2001...

Lars sells a re-curve kit for the HEI and, if I'm not mistaken, he also provides HEI rebuild services. If he can work the same magic on an HEI that he did on my q-jet, I'd recommend you have him do the work for you.

Lars, are you out there???

The point is that I want to do it myself. I don't really need this HEI right now. I like learning and do car stuff because I like it. Thanks for the suggestions though.
