Sidepipes would definitely be the method of choice, but if you want mufflers, and if you want extremely cheap, KBD Targas, (sold under a few different names/brands) worked great for me. Basically open tubes with some damping area around the outside. See the muffler section of most Vette part Dealers.

I have Magnaflow SS and they are not too bad at idle and cruise in 4th but wide open at 5500RPM on a chassis dyno I almost put my fingers in my ears.... but you know I wouldn't do that

Vortec stainless steel packed 3 inch in and out. It's a welded box type race muffler that your can see light through. Sold at Mienike mufflers for about $130 each.
I ended up installing a 3 inch diameter ovalled H pipe near the diff to make it somewhat quieter. at idle and cruise they are OK, but at WOT they can be heard from a long way away.
