Default Radial A/C compressor upgrade

Has anyone done a upgrade to the radial design for a 76 and later corvette ? I am going to switch to r134 and the r4 copressor holds up better to the r134. what brackets and such do I need ? Thanks

I don't know about that! The old style long compressors were pretty hardy, the problem with them and r-134 goes to shoddy rebuilders, and inadequately cleaned systems. If you truly want a modern compressor get a Sanden type compressor from Hot Rod Air they even sell an adapter to use your old style manifold and hoses. Or replace the old manifold, muffler and hoses with new ones,

Switching to the R-4 design is not an upgrade. A6 is a better compressor. R134A works fine. It's been in my stock 69 system for over three years and no problems. Just make sure you use ester oil. PAG oil causes all of the problems when converting.
