Re: 427 emblems on L88 hood (Redshark6974)
For what its worth, I posted a scan copy of the '72 AIM pages that address the placement of the LT-1 stripes and the 454 numbers at http://septo.com/hoodspec/ . You could key off the pacement of the intitial 4 and position the 2 & 7 by sight. Maybe someone has the 68/69 AIM

Not sure about decals, unless they are refering to the L88 "IT" valve cover tags. The hood holes are all pre drilled at the factory including the drain hole. :D

The L-88 I had which was a 68 never had 427 emblems on it. I don't recall others I've seen with them either. the big block hood placement is different and I would think the A.I.M book would show where it was placed.

thanks... i'm just going by mr google, rather than any expertise....
That said, I'd say that the majority of the the output google images from '1968 L88 corvette' are cars that have '427' on the hood!
this includes some pretty well documented cars like these:
https://www.mecum.com/lots/SC0512-12...8-convertible/
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/Event...ERTIBLE-178494
whether correct or not... I've got a set of '427' badges needing a home

I checked with a friend of mine that remembers my old car and I stand corrected it did indeed have the emblems on it.he says he has a picture of it showing the emblems.I stand corrected and I'm sorry for the screw up.

I machined a template when I had to repair and drill the holes in a hood for a 1970 454.
Using that photo you posted...and using a caliper...you can do simple math... and then go to the hood... and even if you print the '427' on paper and tape it to it...you can see where it needs to be.
I know there is a member with a 1968 L88 that may have a way to provide the exact location....but that is IF the hood had 427 emblems.
If the AIM has the emblem placement in the 1969 AIM ( not at work now to look and see)....it is not that hard to get it correctly drilled out in a plate that can be used as your template.

Thanks again all for input.
A couple of for the record bits 1) my AIM finally showed up today courtesy of corvette central. It has a page relating to L88 hood - which definately includes mounting 427 badges - so any confusion as to whether they were originally mounted is clarified.
2) I'll probably be shot down for suggesting this... But after analysing a few pix; the tops of my numerals are just under 7/8th inch down from where the l88 hood curves over.. The numerals are 0.5 inches apart from their closest points and the right edge of the LAST/first letter side dependent) is at 90 degrees to where the 2 hood lines join when you look down on the l88 hood.
Not suggesting this is factory spec or perfect by any lengths... But it looks reasonable compared to other ones I've seen.

Will do - as soon as I get it back from paint!
Once test fitted, I stripped the hood ready to go to the body shop.. Still not quite there yet due to some other body bits.. But expecting to get it over to them in a few weeks.

Suggest that you use a piece of pasteboard as a template for aligning those numbers; then use that template to mark the pin hole locations on the hood, then drill and test fit the numbers BEFORE the hood goes to paint. Afterwards, you only have to install the numbers...and you can't screw-up the new paint.

My AIM shows the numbers installed in "existing holes" My hood came with them already installed. Others have posted photos that should help.
