I got an L88 hood...where do exactly do i put the 427 emblems? I at least want to be someplace pretty close to where they were on factory bigblock hoods. Can anybody fax me a template? Give me general close measurements, or know where i can find out? or any ideas.. thanks. :cheers:

Herb, I am pretty sure they didn't put the 427 numbers on the stock L-88 hood. All the stock L-88 69 pics I have seen showed nothing on the hood. I have seen someone selling L-88 decals on e-bay but I don't think they are original. I mounted the 427 and 454 numbers on my 69 and 70 anyway so see the pics and choose the location "you" like.

Bullshark....funny you mention that..i heard that too, then i also heard that factory L88 hoods had molded scoops installed on bigblock style hoods...who knows? but i have seen 427 emblems on L88 hoods before...i thought that was factory.

After looking at the posted pics, I see that the resolution dosen't allow you to see where I put the numbers... I located the 427 numbers on the lower part of the L-88 hood exactly centered where they were on the stock big block hood. I put the 454 numbers higher on the upper raised portion about the same front to back location. I havn't decided which I like best

If you view the 454 pic with a app that will allow enlargement you can see a little better. I can't take a pic of the 454, right now, the hood's off and at the shop getting modified to accept the 502 RamJet I have just finished installing. I need about a 1.5" bulge to fit Stay tuned I will show the mod when I get it done.

Sort of.... I tried to measure the old hood, the silver LT-1 hood, and used my best judgement on what I liked.

The AIM for 1969 gives the dimensions for the holes for the 427 emblem on big block hoods, used it as a guide fo rmy location. You can use that on your L88 hood as the bottom part is basically the stock BB/LT-1 hood.
Just need someone to post a copy of that page.

The AIM is the "assembly manual"...zip and many others carry it...and it basically explains how every single nut and bolt go together to make up a vette.
Now for the bad news, I went through it and could not find the dimensions for the emblem placement, they have it for the L88 decal, the LT-1 stripes, the positioning of the "stingray" emblem on the side...but the one diagram I can find for the hood 427 emblem...says "pre-existing holes" :confused:
I must have been wrong...I could have swore they gave the dimensions. Must be the effects of three years of paint fumes and cold garage floors...my memory has gone!

Len, i'm guessing thats about 1 inch away from the corner there? I don't see what good that template is, if you don't know where to start it. I wish someone had one that wrapped all the way around the front of the scoop in which it was centered, the holes would line up on both sides the same. hmmm...maybe i'll do that if i ever get correct measurements to figure this thing out.

I could have sworn that the AIM had a scaled diagram with measurements of where all the emblems go, but I couldn't find it. All I could find was the location of the L/88 Decal.
