Default Stock mechanical fuel pump on 454. How much HP will it support?

I'm looking to get about 450-500HP out of my 454. What are my options.

I don't want to listen to a garbage disposal of an electric Holley either.

Thanks.

Depending on how old your pump is (original?), I would consider replacing it. I am running an Edelbrock 100+gph mechanical pump, and my 454 puts out ~525hp at the flywheel.

That sounds good enough to me.

your stock pump will be fine. Factory used the same pump on the L-88's and the ZL-1

 Wow! I would never had guessed my stock pump would suppot 550HP. Do it rob the motor of much HP? I guess that's the only reason to go electric.

I run the Edelbrock 110gph mechanical pump on my 406 and it keeps up just fine. I had starvation problems with the Q-Jet carb even with this pump and went to a Holley 3310 which solved the problem.

If you go to an aftermarket pump go with the Edelbrock because the Holly is not fully adjustable on the inlet and outlet, couldn'nt use it on my 427. :seeya

The stock pump will work but Chevy did have a different pump for the high horse Big Blocks.
It may have been for the fuel lines or some other reason but it lists differently for the high horses.

Well, I did notice that my fuel line looks like it's only 3/8" which worries me.

It should not worry you. All performance Chevys used 3/8 lines including L88`s, LS7`s and the ZL1`s all of which are capable of 600 honest HP running low 11`s and 120+ mph. on stock pumps.
