I have a Magellan I bought about 4 years ago, simple to use and works well. I use it fishing on Lake Erie and when I go on trips in the Vette. Bought it at Cabellas

You need to really consider your use. Mine is for street use. I had been traveling with the Hertz Never Lost system and really liked it. I tried some of the smaller units and while they were ok, the real issue with me was that you had to plan your route before leaving and download it to the GPS. Garmin upgraded the Street Pilot III around 3 or 4 years ago to allow for on the fly programming using the unit only. It was probably the first sub-$1000 unit to do so. As long as you have the right map in, you can pretty much enter the address and it will calculate the route for you. I love it.
