Re: Ordered my hooker sidepipes (81' Corvette Guy)
How loud are the JCL's? I have some sidepipes on my vette that were on it when i bought the car. Im not sure what they are. I hate the mufflers that are currently in it. They give off some wierd sound that always makes me think there is an exhaust leak. Could someone please help me identify these headers? My car is a 69 with a 350. Would the JCL's fit on these headers? They are 4inch headers. Does anyone have a video or audio of what these JCL sound like?
man i bet those will sound sweet! could u post a pic before u put the passenger side on, showing how much fiberglass u have to cut off? or is it on the rocker panels u have to cut some off??? this is the only thing that has kept me from getting a set for my 81
ill take a picture tonight after work when i put it on,im installing the oxygen sensor on it today at work.I had to cut about a 4 inch section of fiberglass away for them to fit,and you have to cut your rocker panel also.
BLACK HOOKER SIDEPIPES!!!   Do NOT waste $$$ on mufflers. :D Try it first without, they sound great. Took mine out 2 years ago. Does anyone want to buy them  http://www.c3sharktank.com/MisfitRacing/dcp_2314.jpg

Chances are good that you won't have to do any trimming on your 81. I had a set on my 81 years ago and they fit perfect without any cutting. I have a new set laying in my spare bedroom that I plan on installing within a couple of weeks and they should fit without any cutting.
Will I have to cut the fiberglass or rocker panels to fit the Hookers on my '78
I'm not really sure. From some earlier posts on this subject it seemed the earlier C3's required some small trimming while the later C3's did not. You might try a search in archives because I remember this topic being discussed.
Below is a picture from Hooker with thier instructions for how much to trim. It's hard to see in the pics below, I trimed everything per Hookers instructions and had no problems.
As always, Hooker's got the best-looking product out there. But the one concern I have is whether anyone has dynoed their cars before-and-after such an installation. It would seem that 1 7/8" primary headers dumping into 4" collectors might be a little too much pipe for either small CID small blocks or otherwise mild 350s (L48s and the like.) But, yes, they sure do sound cool...

If you were to compare a regular full length Hooker header only with no exhaust tubing, to "sidepipe" header only. The engine will dyno better with a standard header. Simply, less bends and and shorter.
hey ken they look great on there  lotahp im gone to try it without first then if too loud then jcls.yep summitracing i got them from.
Pat, please give it a couple of weeks without mufflers :D , 'cause at first it will sound loud  But then you get use to it.. Everyone tells me my Vette sounds loud (and lovin' it) and asks if the POLICE bother me. I have been right next to them at a traffic light (with the cam thumping ) and they never bothered me. I give 'em a little nod (whassssup) when they look over. :D :D :D Then look up at the light and back at him
:lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: (that last part I DO NOT do :jester )
i got both sides mounted and 02 sensor in,i mounted it like my other one which was horizontal and it worked fine.Plus with the rocker panel cut and fitted youll hardley see anything.lotahp ill give it a try and see how it is,gone to be a little bit before i get it all back togther and buffed ready for a drive.
Sh** They don't make sidepipes for the Pantera. Now with your new sidepipes your car is going to sound great. I have to get 180 Headers now so I can have the 4" exhaust too.
