Default steering column help-internal pieces

I have to replace the ignition switch on my 78 and pulled the parts out the the column, when I took it out of the car one piece fell out and I do not know where it goes. I checked all of Jim Sheas topics and parts books and cannot recognize it. It is about 1' long, small spring on the end and a small plastic cap on the end of the spring, the rod is only about 1/16 in diameter and slides into the spring. Any one recognize it, I am going to Lima Ohio this Sunday maybe I'll look around and ask questions there.

I just did my 76 steering column and that doesn't sound familiar. There is a small spring (not a coil spring) that fits underneath the little rack gear that is attached to the rod running to the ign switch.
There's a small coil spring, about the size of a pen spring that goes under the horn contact button and sits in the turn signal switch housing, and there are 2 springs with long tails that are used for the turn signal kick off.
Hope that helps a little.
Jesse

thanks but nope, this spring is smaller than a pen spring in diameter and length, I know which ones you are refering to, the column is a tilt, telescopic and it may have to do with the tilt. It did fall out of the column when I turned it almost upside down taking it out of the car.

Sounds like the spring that goes under the horn button to me.

Please take a look at the steering wheel parts shown on this drawing:

Are you sure that you aren't describing parts #2, #3, & #4?

John,
FYI, I never received any pictures. I will be leaving for a ski vacation in Colorado sometime this afternoon. I will be back a week from Sunday. If you can send them (or resend them) in the next few hours, I might still be here to review them.
