By having the Q-Jet rebuilt and modified, and keeping my performer intake vs a 750 Speed Demon mech. with rpm intake?
I just can't afford to spend nearly $700 to convert to the Demon setup, but rebuilding the Q-Jet is a much more attractive option financially.
Here is what I currently have; my goal is 350+hp
355 - 300hp?, 340lb-ft
9.0 compression, balanced
67cc Pro Torker heads, 2.02/1.60 valves, ported (Similar to AFR 190s)
Crane Power Max Cam,.454/.480 lift, 272/284 duration
Cloyes Double Roller Timing Chain
Melling Hi-Volume Oil Pump
Edelbrock Performer intake, modified
B&M Holeshot 2000
TH350 with shift kit
3.70 gears
Dynomax 1-5/8 Headers
Re: How much performance would I give up? (Sling Blade)
I think the performer RPM intake is a bigger factor than the carb. A properly setup Q-JET is a good carb. You may consider going to the perf rpm intake and keeping the QJET as a compromise to save money. For your engine I wouldn't be surprised to see a 20hp difference between the performer and performer RPM, with the same carb. Going to the 750 MS may give you another 5 hp, maybe. This assuming the QJET was properly setup.
