Default Installing Headers...

I am putting some hooker headers and sidepipes on my (as of today) stock '80 L48. Cam, heads, etc are in the plans but will be a few weeks down the road. When I install the headers and remove the stock exhaust will the car run normally? Will the timing or anything else have to be changed immediately when I take the stock exhaust off? I am just trying to know what to expect. It is in good (slow) running condition right now. Thanks.

You shouldn't have to make any changes...

A richer fuel mixture would yield a few more HP with the free flowing exhaust. If the new headers get to glowing cherry red hot, it might be an indication of too lean a mixture. Advance the timing a couple of degrees too. As long as you dont get spark knock yur ok.

I just pulled the stock exhaust off. I think it weighed about a ton or so!!! Haven'st gotten a chance to put the headers and pipes on yet though.

I've put headers and a true dual system on my '80 L48 and didn't have to make any adjustments. Sidepipes should be very nice though. Of course we'll need to see photos.
