I guess I dont know what Steve was trying to achieve yes there are somethings I would have done different and Ive added up all the reciepts and there is well over 225k into the car..For investing that kind of money I would have expected alittle more but the craftmanship and detail that went into the car is quality work..Ive been in the restoration business for many years and have had the pleasure of working with and seeing some of the top built cars in the country..Im not saying this is a Grand National best in the world car, but it is definately one of the nicer if not the nicest custom built Vette's out there or that Ive ever seen..sure there probably are other vettes out there that can out perform it in a road course but I know they wont be a detailed as this car or as fun to drive this car! it moves and sounds like an airplane coming down the road..I have a 8 second 1/4 mile Camaro and know what speed and power feels like and this car would be just plain insane if it were to hook up..Ive spent numerous hours detailing and changing things about the car..and it is a hands down jaw dropping show car. I didnt buy the car expecting a F1 ride..its just a fun show car that flys..It eats my neighbors Viper up with out even getting it to it that hard.

I tried not to post to this thread but cant stay quiet any longer. You have an 8sec camaro and your impressed with that car, gimme a break. What a waste of money,if you have 225thou in receipts what are they for ,someones insane labor rate. Not parts. That car is no way a drag car and no way a roadracer. It is a hybrid of mismatched parts that dont flow together.427hotrods car would wipe it all over the place im sure,so would 632c2s car and plenty of others who are on this forum ,let alone mine, not even a prayer. You might be able to salvage that car into something but dont tell us how it walks all over the viper without trying,BS. Ill take the viper over it.Its nice to have a dream, now its time to wake up to reality.Take it to the track and see what it can do or not do.This forum will help any with making their car better perform,or looks,or just advice myself included .

OK everyone - check out the "82 Must be a Stingray" thread about halfway down the first page. Don't know if it's a cross-linked message, but it belongs here...

So you drove it? If not how do you know what it can or can't do? Only claims I see are 1200+ hp and it can beat a Viper. He also states he would expect more for $225k but it is a very well built and nice looking car. Pretty harsh words for a guy who seems to be on the level.

I'm with Fevre on this one. Lighten up, people. This is the most civil car forum on the internet--let's keep it that way. And whatever the car or cannot do, it's a damned impressive machine and would win best of show in any show I've been in.

I think I now know a way to guarantee about a 1600 views for any new thread! Just add the word "Merlin" somewhere in your title.

Here are some of my sample Titles:
*Spark Plug Problem What Would Merlin Do? (for the "Merlin is god group" you could shorten the last part to WWMD)
Or maybe something like this
*Problem bleeding brakes, anybody know how Merlin did it?

Even the most simple question could stay on page one for days, possibly even weeks with people arguing about Merlin's spark plugs or how he did or didn't bleed his brakes right. I know there's a lot of people here like me, that when somebody posts anything about Merlin it's time to sit back gab some and watch the fireworks. He's been gone for what, a year(?), and still heats things up. WOW!

Bowtie, I think you got on the wrong side when you came in with your post...like telling the C3 guru's they don't know what they're talking about...not in so many words, but the gist was there.

Why don't you exit, stage left, then come back in, and introduce yourself, stating you're the new owner and lose the excess verbage. You will be welcomed, trust me.

You are wondering why the hostility towards the car...as stated earlier, Steve made outrageous claims of F1 handling...blah...blah...blah...as the project was progressing, the guys who been there, done that made suggestions, to right some wrongs....invaluable advice was not heeded. Steve snubed them.

Anyway, welcome to the forum.

Yes welcome to the forum Bowtie !

I had always liked that car and followed the buildup from the beginning.
I really liked the styling and the way the bigger wheels made that car look real mean just sitting there.

I was a little disappointed that the only time I saw it run was a video clip of the oringinal owner tooling ( and I mean tooling ) around the neighbourhood, he blipped the throttle to about 3 grand a couple of times and that was it, after a few years of waiting that is all we got.

I am hoping that it runs great and you are not not just talking it up so you can get a higher price Barret Jackson, there are not a lot of fools here at the CorvetteForum

I would be nice to to see/hear that car on the dyno and
I would love to be there when someone finally take it to the strip.

First off I never said this car is the fastest thing around or a road racer or 1/4 drag car..I all Ive said is its a damn nice car that flys and its as fun as my drag car to drive..and honestly dont car if you believe me or not but the car will walk a Viper..but honestly whos cares believe what you will..I never said the car is faster than 427hotrods or 632c2s or who ever the hell else, Ive never heard of any of these people. I was on here back in April and everyone seemed like a bunch of car loving guys and all were nice. Now I come back on and was trying to track down some info and see all of this bashing going on about my car..well damn right Im going to say something! You dont see me tearing apart anyones car?? and every car has flaws or more that could be done..I can pick a car apart just as good as the next guy but personally my life is a little to busy to play those games. Im sorry maybe the builder of the car was an a**hole but Im not him like or him as some smart a*s said earlier..Im just another car enthuist looking for alittle info about my car, and honestly could care less if a ford escort walked my car..I did say Ive never seen a nicer custom vette and that was the truth or at least my opinion I think the car is a first place show winner hands down Ive judged CCI shows and think I can tell quality from junk..you'd have to see the car in person to see the detail. All I ever meant to say was dont rip a car you've never seen in person or one that was built 2 years ago and had changes done by 2 of its previous owners..Im not trying to enter the biggest dick contest because thats not me and I could really care less. Thanks to all the guys that send me positive emails and I will be in contact with you..and to all the people with the negitive crap to say..SORRY TO OFFEND YOU..YOUR CAR IS THE BEST!!

GDaina Bowtie, I think you got on the wrong side when you came in with your post...like telling the C3 guru's they don't know what they're talking about...not in so many words, but the gist was there.

I did not interpet his responses that way.

Why don't you exit, stage left, then come back in, and introduce yourself, stating you're the new owner and lose the excess verbage. You will be welcomed, trust me.

He already introduced himself right after he purchased the Vette along while back. And as far a excess verbage is concerned he has all the right to defend whats being said about his Vette.

You are wondering why the hostility towards the car...as stated earlier, Steve made outrageous claims of F1 handling...blah...blah...blah...as the project was progressing, the guys who been there, done that made suggestions, to right some wrongs....invaluable advice was not heeded. Steve snubed them.

So does that make it right for people to continue to trash this Vette
eventhough it belongs to someone else? The new owner had no input as to how the Vette would be built. But it now seems that he is being punished for something he had no control over?

I just don't think any of this thread is productive to the forum at all.

GDaina overreacted me thinks, though I understand moderating can't be an easy job. This guy does come across as pretty level headed, so people could be civil with him, but then again...

-I understand if people are NOT. Sounds like c3's aren't even really his thing, and he's planning on selling Merlin anyway. It's more like a business venture for this guy, than a love of Corvettes, which is why the rest of us gather in this forum.

Good luck with it quick-bowtie, but we know you bought the car for a song. So you don't get my sympathy and I could care less if this thread effects the value of Merlin at auction.

Maybe some other new owner will also luck out and get it for a fraction of it's initial build cost. Maybe that person will dig Corvettes specifically, and jump on occasionally to share his/her experiences with the car that some people(whether we hated it or loved it) had an interest in from it's very inception.

The guy is not even here to defend himself. So most everyone slams him. The new owner comes in here to clear up some misconceptions. And people slam him. Geeez. When the car was being built I liked it. When it was built I liked it. I wish it was sitting in my garage. It could just sit there and I'd like it. People and attitudes, what's the big deal.

Make a long story short...reading Bowtie's post, it hit me that Bowtie came in with a chip on his shoulder...your interpretation is different, that's what makes individuals, individuals... That's the falacy of the written word...the meaning can be interpreted in different ways.
