Just ordered a new shift console plate and a new shift boot. Was wondering how that plate came off? Is it a snap in or are there some screws/bolts hidden somewhere?
Thx, ESU.
Yes there are bolts. If you take the carpeted side panels off you can access all of them fairly easily. Seems like two at each end and two in the middle somewhere if I remember correctly. Then of course all the wiring etc on the heater controls, power windows and shifter lamp.
The most difficult part for me was getting the shifter boot on the new plate correctly.
Your new console bezel will bolt to the bottom side of the radio bezel, and then down the side of the console bezel in I believe 2 places. It is also a good time to refinish your ash tray cover if it needs it. I did mine with Krylon flat black and it turned out very well. May as well check the operation of your neutral safety switch and the gate mechanism that makes the push-button on the shifter work correctly. New light bulb in the shift plate lens area won't hurt either.
