In an hour we had it running, could have drove it home if the tires were good, I vowed on that day that will never happen to me again, I call it the "you never know factor" sorry for the long post.

I just stopped by the League City address and it is a legit business. I will stop by tomorrow to see if I can see the engine first hand. It may still work out OK!

an hour later he came back with a grin on his face and a title in his hand, HE PAID $1,000.00 for it. It was her X husbands who left her for another woman and had made the mistake of putting the car in her name for insurance
My dad gave some words of advice on this. "Hell hath no fury like the lawyer of a woman scorned."

I will ask them what else they have that they want to sell. Apparently they were working on a project car, and it was abandoned by the owner.

I just got back from Total Performance, and they had not heard of the guy, or knew of an LS6 that was on ebay.

When you talk with the guy tell him that I could stop by and check the engine out, and I could forward the pics of it to you.

My gut feeling right now is that it may be a scam.

This story ain't over yet. Let's give Matchframe a chance to visit with this fellow. Then we'll draw our conclusions.

I got an email from the guy saying he was a small business and worked out of his dads shop. He also said that he didn't mind if I had someone come over and look at the engine. This is turning in to an automotive soap opera, So we can't count him out yet.

Hate to be the Devil's Advocate, but...

Where's his "dad's" shop and what is its' real name? We know it's not "Total Performance".

So...someone from the forum goes to the apartment, checks out the engine and says "OK". You send the funds and no engine arrives. You send forum member back to apt. one month later who reports back to you "apartment now vacant".

If the motor is stolen, there is a chance the block #'s will be on file somewhere.

IMO, I wouldn't waste one more minute on this deal unless you can drive there yourself with the $$$ and take delivery on-the-spot.

For the price it would be worth flying out renting a p-up truck and driving back.
I see your point, He also gave the address to his dads shop.

Leo,

I got your email with his shop address. I will stop by there in the morning to check it out.

Hopefully I will have some pics of the LS6 to post here tomorrow!

Bill

ok maybe i'm missing the obvious....he just happens to name his company Total Performance which is a legitmate company in the same town....he does businesss out of a low income housing area.... the only phone he has is a cell that has limited service and he is working out of his dads garage....now why do you want to send him money??? and how do you know its not stolen? have you gotten bank references from him? and this risk your taking is all for the hopes of getting a bargain?? I have just recently purchased a 350/350 from a local builder...i looked at all the dream engines and crate engines and e-bay engines and when it was said and done i decided to go for the real deal where i could touch it see it and knew who was building it.... good luck

We actually talked to the guy on the phone and Matchframe is going to meet him to see the engine. Matchframe said that if the engine is legit that he will take possession of it and ship it for me, which is going way out of his way for someone that he has never met, I think that is awesome and hopefully someday will be able to return the favor.
I talked to a friend of mine at a Chevy dealership and he is going to run the numbers from the block for me, but the only way to trace it is if it came out of a car, This is unlikely, being a crate motor probably won't get any results from any numbers stamped on the block.

Still sounds fishy. What guarantees do you have that the engine runs. It may look pretty on the outside, but have a cracked block or something worse inside. I would only buy a new motor from a reputable engine builder with references.....
