Default I think I lost "It All"

Bad news .... my home PC decided to take a dive, just as I was starting to burn all my stuff to CD. Key word : starting.

I lost ALL my vette pictures, not to mention all the pics that I have ever
taken over the last couple years. I DO have some old pics somewhere
on CD - where, I don't know yet.

So, does anyone have pictures of mine that they may have downloaded
and saved ? Even better, if you archived whole threads with the pictures
in the archive.

I'm desperate. I'm still trying to recover the data, but hope is dwindling.

Please, if you have any of my pics, email them to me. THANKS !!!!

If your computer 'dies' all the data on your hard drive may be still there. I had the same problem, Windows just wasn't starting... you can install a different harddrive, install Windows and boot, then access the second (old) slave harddrive from there. Or just install the old harddrive in a different computer as a 'slave' harddrive. It is a pain but I was able to save all my data.
From that time on I always use a seperate harddrive for the operating system and the 'slave' for data.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear that. If your hard drive isn't what is bad, you should be able to recover just about everthing. Ooops, uh yeah, what he said. (He posted at the same time as me)

Yeah - already tried several variations of this, but still trying.
It tries to boot - fails on NTOSKRNL.EXE - so I know the drive can be read.
Funny, when trying to fix or reinstall W2K, it thinks the partition is bad.
I'm gonna keep at it, maybe even look to purchase some software that
will help recover from the raw data.

Thanks, guys (and gals) for helping out.

I thought you were building a Honda and didn't want a Vette

Take RedBad1979's second option as it is easier.
You should be able to save all.

My experience is that if you try to 'fix' the drive and try to boot from it then it's only making it worse.

Take this drive out and move the jumper so it is a 'slave'

Buy a new HD (cheap, some $40 deal) and re-install Windows on this new 'primary' drive.

Then recover your data...

This is the quickest and cheapest solution.

Dave,

Do the slave thing as suggested and if you still can't see the drive, I'd be willing to take a look at it for you. Have done several "recoveries" lately with good results using several different software packages that read the drive directly w/o using the OS.

Good Luck!

Went through this about a year ago myself, I copied all the files from the old drive to the new drive, did lose a few but most are functioning. I think the part of the drive that was housing Windows went bad.
