Customs frowned upon? ...why?!

to "turn the tables" and seriously rag on the folks that are
into "correct" resto. There is definitely a place and room for
both styles here. There shouldn't be an US vs THEM in a hobby.
I'm a fanatic, but I don't take it that seriously.
Be careful, ask questions, and learn ...

All this drama about who likes who's car, should it modded or not. I don't give a rat's azz what you or anyone else does to their car....it's none of my business. I would expect the same from others
I have 2 friends I go to car shows with. Mine is an "NCRS" restored car. There's are "Not Correctly Restored Sharks" and we have never had a problem with each other or anyone else at the many shows we've attended. They're into modding, I'm into restoration. We enjoy talking about each others cars and the projects we're involved in because we're friends and we like vettes, original, restored, modded, it doesn't matter.
Now, have I liked every vette I've ever seen? No. Has everyone liked my car? Probably not.....SO WHAT....Who are you trying to please??
This is a hobby...it's supposed to be fun....all these threads bashing one side or the other isn't fun and I didn't think that that's what this forum was about.

Knock yourself out.

Good point
to all
fortunately, the guys in the local 'vette community here are all pretty pro-mod; 400+ HP C2's, Lingenfelters, C3's that scare me . . .

If I change my mind and want to trick it out then that is what I will do. Different strokes for different folks. Its your car so do what you want to it. Just do it with a little taste.
I think that is the biggest complaint from "vette purists" they think custom=ricer. It does not have to be that way. Just remember when you customize it to your personal taste it may never look as good to someone else who would do it differently. Hence its value to you will not be the same to someone else.
I looked at several customized cars before I bought mine but none of them was for me. I ended up paying more for a stock car because I could not find anything I didn't like about it.

I know and have made many friends with alot of vette/car guys at the shows that I attend and I feel no need to join a club. However, I also know of alot of nice vette folks in the local clubs as well ...Have a numbers matching 73 also but had modified it..
most of the mods are bolt on/off so it's no big deal, just hold on the the OEM parts.I enjoy driving my 73 instead of just looking at it....
I see the same attitude among the classic Mustang crowd- they wear bermuda shorts, black socks over (glow-in-the-dark) pale legs, loafers and a fishing hat that hasn't been within 50 yards of a tackle-box, since it was made...
They constantly wax and rub down their trophy-car, and take pleasure in the owning of such a vehicle... Those who mod their cars, are a completely different breed. They don't really CARE about finding the exact screws used for a parking lens on a car built 30 years ago- if the local shop has acceptable replacements, then good 'nuff!
The modders don't simply derive pleasure from looking at a 30 year-old piece of technology, they get pleasure from DRIVING it!!! If it wasn't supposed to be driven on the street, then why was it made with WHEELS???
The two sides will never really meet, when you think about it... One crowd spends their time in Hemmings Motor News, trying to find that odd-ball option, that *special* little gee-gaw that their car had 30 years ago, and they'll spend thousands of dollars for that useless piece of history... The other crowd will improve the handling, the performance, the LOOKS as they see fit... And laugh at the **** behavior of those who have forgotten the purpose of a car...
I now have 2003 Coupe, automatic, HUD, clear sunroof and polished rims... It's a nice driver, and I enjoy it immensely. Yet, I can't wait to light off the blown 427 that's about to go in my '74... No WAY will my C-5 be able to excite me like the '74 will...
Mod your car as you see fit. Just do high-quality work, whatever you decide... And when some NCRS weenie sneers, tell him his grille has a bug stuck in it.
