Default [TECH] wiper override switch quick fix

Just thought I'd post this for an FYI.........

In case you didn't know, the wiper override switch parks the wipers so you can change the blades.......I didn't know the switch on my Vette wasn't working until I needed to change the blades.......go figure

My dilemma was pretty simple: I want to change my blades now and drive the Vette (it rains a lot here), and I don't want to take it to an auto electrician or wait 4 weeks to get a new switch (if I can even get one)......

I tried turning off the ignition with the wipers in full flight, but that didn't work.....

....so I looked at the wiring diagrams in the Chassis Service Manual and determined that if I removed the black connection at the wiper motor, then the wipers should park....

...so with the Vette running and the wipers in full flight, I removed the black connection and the wipers parked

So the result was: I changed the blades, drove the Vette in the rain, and now I can work on sorting out a new switch

I normally just turn the key on, flip the wipers on, and shut the key off when they are up. Does this not work for this? I would assume not as you do have that override switch.

Thanks for the response, but as I said above:

if you turn off the ignition, the wipers should still go back down... however, if you have a battery disconnect switch, that should do the trick! standup, when you say "parked" do you actually mean "stopped on the windshield?" When I read "parked" I think that means the wipers go back down to their resting position.

yeah, I meant "stopped on the windshield"........and you're right, parked is their resting position.......I'd go back and edit it, but I'm too tired

BTW, what's a battery disconnect switch???? Is that like a kill switch????

Yes, it's a switch that goes on the battery that allows you to easily completely disconnect the battery. 2 types, the knifeblade and the green plastic wheel. Considered a must-have safety device to prevent electrical fires. Also useful if you have a battery drain. Can provide some anti theft protection also if thief is very unfamiliar with C3 anatomy!
