When my engine was rebuilt the shop screwed some plugs where a sending unit goes. Socket extensions don't fit. Does anyone know what the name of the tool is to remove these plugs.
It's probably square-drive. Best (cheapest) solution I've found is to get a short length of square keystock from the hardware store that fits the hole in the plug. I had a Jeep that used an odd-size square drive plug in the transfer case. Had to fabricate my own tool for that one...
if the shape is an octagon (8 sides) like the head of a bolt and you dont have the proper tool...
then heres what you can do...
find a bolt that fits in the hole and run 2 nuts onto the bolt and tighten them together so that the "flats" match up...
insert the bolt head into the hole and use a wrench (or socket) on the 2 nuts to turn it out...
works great!
