I have new weather striping for the tops and need to know about sealant/ adhesive to use. The old ones seemed to be reall stuck to the tops. Do I need to apply sealant? If so will black silicon be OK? I have weather stip adhesive from mid america but I think it is basically contact adhesive. Need help. This is a 1980.

Reason: forgot
I use 3M weatherstrip adhesive. (yellow stuff in the red tube). It is specifically made for this & does an excellent job. Be careful, as it can be messy to work with. Available at Pep Boys or Auto Zone.
I went looking for the 3M stuff because I've used it in the past an I know it's good. None of the stores around here had it and I found myself in Lowes looking for it. They didn't have 3M , but I did find a product call Seal-All. It comes in clear color and it worked GREAT!
I needed less than 1/2 a tube for both tops and it holds like iron and is easy to use because it isn't as thick as the 3M stuff when you apply it. It's been on for several months and the seals show no signs of coming off.

Thanks for the information. This is the first I have done and don't want to mess up.

Thanks I have an auto zone near and I am making a trip to home depot so between the two I should be able to get what I need.
