I think that there was just too much power for a street car. Got squirelly related heat problems, and probably boredom contributed to the sale.

The motor would really neat in a dedicated pro-street drap car or something, but as a street car I think they were a bit much.

I learned alot from their projects and consequently I am working on a goal of 650hp. as compared to stuff in the triple digits.

The poll should read: Will they have to push it on the block or will it make it on it's own.

$85,000 because it's BJ's.

Are you guys nuts? Yeh alot of people here have some anti-Merlin history having seen its quirky conception, and yes it didn't run well at first. But anyone who's paid any attention knows it (supposedly) runs fine now, useable or not. As many people who have drooled over it here, you KNOW there will be people going ga-ga over it at the auction. It's certainly not going to approach its cost-to-create, but $100k, yeh probably. Get over yourselves and think realistically.

They probably will start the bidding at $60,000.

I think the present owner paid about $80,000.

As long as the bidders don't have any sense or knowledge of how to make a car a performer it should go for quite a bit of money. Probably won't be driven by the new owner anyways.

Historicaly, hot rods haven't brought big bucks at Barret, exceptions are Boyd Coddington's creations, that's because Coddington has a rep as a car builder, and his creations are streetable, been published in all the car rags. The big ticket items always are factory correct restorations....

Merlin...who's heard of the Merlin creators...I doubt if one soul at the auction knows who built Merlin...

George,
Things are shifting now, though- I saw a '55 Nomad street rod go for 150+k at BJ- plus that 400k+ Lincoln-Zephyr that they sold! I think how much $$$ a hot rod brings is based on style & crowd appeal.
The older vettes & muscle cars are the new pre-war Fords- many people like them modded- not just stock!
just my opinion

BTW,
Was your '68 for sale recently?

The B-J folks decide what goes across the block and when. They put the high dollar cars up on the weekend. I don't think that they expect to get big numbers for this car, or the car has a high reserve price that they don't think will be met.

I've heard that the bidding picks up when the television cameras are turned on. That may influence the final bid for the Merlin car.

A 62 with C4/C5 suspension, LS6 etc sold for $93k last year too. Times are changing.

Assuming it running well now and can be driven, I think it sells for just over $100k. And it probably is in good running condition or I don't think an owner would put it on an auction block risking a huge loss.

I'm talking to a forum member from Denmark...was ready but my son said he wants the car, so the sale is temporarily on the back burner...

Not much can be done during the cold winter months as the buyer wants the car inspected by an independent agent..will have to wait till the snows clear to do that...not going to take it out on salty roads...the underside, you can turn the 68 upside down and put a 16 piece place setting on it.

I voted $50-75k. I would like to watch it cross the auction block. Hopefully Speed will cover this one and we all can get a look at it again.

Anything less than $75,000 is a great bargin. I doubt it will go over $125,000. I say if there are a few interested buyers it will go for $110,000.

I wonder if we will be able to see it on Thursday? If I don't see it, I am sure Speedvision will pick it up. They had great coverage last year....

I hope this rain goes away....
