Value of an '80 t-top
I know it's a loaded question but what would a very nice '80 t-top be worth? This 'vette has the original drive train with about 115,000 miles.
The body is in great shape with beautiful maroon paint and very good interior. The paint and interior were redone about 5-6 years ago.
I runs fine but I do have a value concern with the mileage. It'a a local car the guy is having trouble selling at 10K. I think it's the local market but I'm just not sure.
Any feedback is appreciated. It woulld be hard sell to my wife unless I can prove its value. I'd love to have it sitting by my C4.
Its a longshot, but I might as well try.

10K is what he's asking. He WILL take offers. Just trying to figure out what it's actually worth. I guess I could offer 5K (although he's a friend & I really hate to insult). Would $7500 be reasonable?

Depends on the car. $10k is NOT too high in my opinion if the car is in good shape. My 1980 has 74k on it and I have it insured for $15k and feel that is too low. Who knows, make a $7500 offer and see what happens. Most guys that say that the later C3's are not worth much, most of the time also own one. Try to get them to sell theirs for that $10k price. All of a sudden, their car is the exception but all others are not worth over $5k.. The car is basically worth what you are willing to pay per the cond of the car. Ive seen 80's as high as $30k. Not speaking about the BS prices that Barrett Jackson over charges. Im just speaking of what Ive seen others sell their cars for in the club that I belong.
If the car has good paint, no cracks, nice interior, all records, $10k is a GREAt deal. The 1980 was a very nice looking year. Personally, I think the 80-82 were the best looking rubber bumper C3's. I have never been a fan of the 74-79. Not that they are a bad car, I just dont like the front and rear without the rear spoiler and front ground effects. IMOP, they just dont look good. No flame, just my own opinion. Start dealing! Myself, I have considered selling my 1980. I have a NEW GM crate 350 with less than 1000 miles, along with the original Ca 305 boxed in the crate sitting in the corner of my shop. Mine is numbers matching as long as I keep the 305. Ive owned the car forever and some days I look at it and say its time for a new one. I know, one of these days, someone is going to ask me at the right time to sell it and I may take them up on the offer if the price is right. Until then, mine sits in the garage waiting for a nice sunny day for any excuse to take a drive to the Oregon coast, getting a thumbs up everywhere I go! Good luck!

If paint and interior were redone and still look good, that's a very big plus because those items are expensive. If it's been well kept and well maintained so it looks great and doesn't need major mechanical work, then $10K is a reasonable asking price. As others have said, offer about $7,500 if he's had it for sale for a while and see what happens. My opinion is that it still sounds like a pretty good deal in the $8-9K range.
Tell your wife it's a great deal but it isn't selling because it's winter time, and in the spring he'd be able to sell it for $10K easily. That's probably the truth! Good luck!

Market determines the price. I aint buyin or sellin but $6K sounds like the bottom for a motivated seller and I would put it at about $10k for a nice unmolested stock example that runs and looks great too. You will find exceptions but the late C3 market is pretty soft. It takes a REALY nice '80 car to get much higher than $12K. Those deals are harder to find and many times go down in private between enthusiasts rather than Ebay or your local paper.

If the seller is your friend, tell him you want the car and ask him for his best price. If you think he's reasonable, don't dicker and buy the car. Best of both worlds. He'll be happy to have sold it to someone who will take care of it, and you'll be happy to have it.
