Wanted C3
Hey all, Im a new member to the board but I've been reading a lot. I just sold an LS1 camaro and im looking to get into an older vette. From reading and researching this is what im looking for.
Im looking for a 68-80
I would prefer an L82 engine although ive seen a few owners that now have crate engines but have the originals on the shelf selling with the car, id be ok with that, i'm also leaning toward stick but its not a must. Pretty much im looking for something in the 15ish range as clean as i can get... obviously..lol
Also im in chicago, i hope not to have to drive too too far to find a car.
thanks
greg

Safety Car
Hi Greg
Welcome.
I too came to corvettes from camaros. I have had 3 C3's and 3 C4's.
The best advice I can give you is to get some "seat time" in the corvettes before you buy one. Maybe there are some forum people nearby that you can hook up with.
The reason I say this is because the camaro you had was a pretty sophisticated car with a lot of power in comparison with some of the C3's.
I love C3's and am looking for one right now, but they do not handle like what you may expect them to, especially in comparison to C4's and C5's and late model camaro's. These test drives may narrow down what years and engines you might prefer.

Hello Greg,
I've got what seems to be a good match for you. Admittedly it's an L-48 (numbers matching), not an L-82, but it's got a few mods so it's definitely more potent than just a stock L-48. It also has a 4-speed and is in great shape, plus I'm pretty local and it's in your price range. Let me know!

P.S. I actually had a 98 Z28 before this car, so I know exactly where you're coming from. These 'Vettes are totally different cars but the driving experience is just unlike any other.

Unfortunately, no, I don't - I can't tell you how much I wish I did though, you're far from being the first to ask! However, you can pick up an original hood for $100 easily (that's how much I sold the old one for last summer) and sell the L-88 one for probably $350-400, which would help the cost and cover part of the cost of painting. I'd definitely be willing to work with you on my asking price in light of that

Hi Rick, I have 2 1977 Vette's. Love them both. I need to sale one of them to make room in the garage for my next project car. This one is Red, daily driver. Very clean inside and out. Smoke Gray interior. It is the L-48 but has been rebuilt and has much more power than the ole 180hp. Gets great gas milage. Engine has 25K miles on it. This is an Auto Trany. The radio has been replaced with a nice AM/FM CD with speekers in the back. Custom Wheels. This is a southern car (Orininal from Arkansas, now in Tenn), that has NO rust. Aluminum Intake, Holley Carb, Headers, etc. I can send pictures if you send me your email pat@corvettec3.ca
I paid $8000 for it last summer. We can work a deal if your interested. Let me know.

Black 79 L-82
I know of a black 1979 L-82, with only 23000 original miles, its about 5 hours from you. Nice car. Im not sure how the link thing works, but type in valleymotorsofwinona.com and click on recently added. It's a nice car, but needs a little detailing. I bought my 79 from him and he's great to deal with. I'm pretty sure you would get it for your price range. The car looks nicer in person than in the pics, the interior looks about perfect. Its a nice car!

By detailing, i just mean the rims should be polished ( Mine looked dull when i bought it too, but I used eagle one aluminum polish and a lot of elbow grease) as well as the paint needs a few good coats of wax to bring out the shine. I personally like the looks of the spoilers, so I'd have them put on (but thats a matter of personal taste). its priced the same as mine was, and I bought mine for 15,800 from him. (I'm not for sure what you'd get the car for, but I'm guessing around the same) I kinda wish he would have had it when I bought mine-That black will look HOT when shined up.

Greg... I looked at a 74 on Sunday at a Corvette show at Bill Jacobs Chevy in Joliet. It is a pretty nice car with 41K orig. miles. It is a L48 though, but it was a 4sp. The guy lives close to I55 and Weber road near Bolingbrook. He was asking 15,900. I think I still have his # if your interested.
