F/S 1971 Corvette LS5, 454, 4 sp, coupe
SOLD!!!! SOLD!!!!!!!!!!! SOLD!!!!!!
I'm looking to sell my 1971 Corvette LS5. This car has been a great running car that needs nothing more than someone to enjoy it. It's in excellent condition.
Original Matching numbers drivetrain (engine, transmission, and rear end)
454 CI (365 HP, 465 LBS Torque
Correct Mulsanne Blue exterior and Dark Blue interior
88,391 original miles
Power steering
Power brakes
M21 Close ratio 4 speed
S/S Chambered exhaust
3.70 rear gears
Holley 4165, 800 CFM, four barrel carb
Stewarts Stage 2 water pump
Dewitts direct fit aluminum radiator (factory painted black)
Rebuilt/ Restored items:
Replaced rear trailing arm assembly (Van Steel) (2 years ago)
Replaced BF Goodrich tires 255/60 R15 all around (just over 1 year ago, 400 miles)
Restored wiper motor, replaced washer pump, replaced/ NOS control valve and wiper solenoid. (1 year ago)
Replaced power steering cylinder and lines (1 year ago)
Replaced front and rear suspension bushings (2 years ago)
Rebuilt head light actuators (1 year ago)
Rechromed original front bumper (1 1/2 years ago) triple chromed
Rebuild original heads (4 years ago)
Replaced door ajar switches (1 year ago)
Replaced radiator with Dewitts radiator, replaced radiator support (1 1/2 years ago)
Paint:
The car was repainted about 16 years ago in the original Mulsanne color. It's 2 stage base coat/clear coat. It has a few clips in the paint. It shows very well. I would rate the paint condition about 7 plus to 8. The gas lid was repainted about a year ago when I changed it out for a correct one. The paint is slightly off but hardly noticeable.
Interior:
The interior is in pretty nice shape. The rear carpet section is showing a little age but the rest is in pretty good shape. The seats are not ripped and are in good shape. The dash does have a small crack near one of the speakers but other wise good. New brake cover console pad (Al Knoch). I have a nice set of floor mats for the car. Also, have a set of t top storage bags which are in great shape.
Body and Glass:
The body is a no hit body with all original panels. The glass is all original except for the windshield is a replacement.
Frame and birdcage:
The frame and bird cage are in great shape. I have removed the kick panels and rear inspection covers to inspect and they were solid.
Overall the car is in great shape. All the fiber optics work. The head lights work great. The windshield wipers work great. Parking brake works. The car just past a full safety inspection 1 week ago. The only things that don't work on the car is the clock, original radio, and CEC emission system which isn't hooked up. The speakers are not hooked up on the original radio. There is an aftermarket radio hooked up in one of the rear compartments. There is a speaker box in the rear that can be removed easily. I have paperwork dating back to the second owner from the early 80's. I have talked with the past 3 owners to verify the history of the car. The car spend it's early life in New Jersey, then a short stay in Florida before moving on to Texas.

I`m not sure how to word this either as this is a totally emotional response. I am so sorry about your loss. I can relate to what your going through a bit as I have had some very close friends whose son passed when he was sixteen. I have seen some of their decisions as they went through everything and the regrets they had afterward. Are you sure you want to sell the car right now? Can you give it sometime while you do some healing and then decide? The car may mean something completely different in a year or so. Sorry but this brought back a lot of memories for me. You can pm me if you like. Good luck in whatever you decide.

I read your ad and had the same kind of emotional response as Homestead - I lost my dad in 2011 and he was always my 'partner in crime' in cars and car culture. I know it's tough and I can't imagine the depths of emotion you feel in having lost a child, but I treasure every scrap of memory of my father. If this car brings you fond memories of your son, then I would by all means keep it and enjoy it in his honor. Good luck to you, and btw your car is stunningly beautiful - my favorite color combination and the stuff of dreams.

Thank you so much for everyone that has reached out to post. There isn't much that can be said to express the feelings of losing someone so close. This hobby is an amazing one and one that I will never forget. It was one of the many dreams my son and I shared. We were able to accomplish a few of our dreams together and I intend to continue to accomplish our dreams. As I look to move on, I have some great memories of us at some car shows. In other ways it wasn't who I will remember him by. This was my dream and one that he shared with me. As I said, I don't need to sell but do look forward to accomplish more for us. So if it's now or 5 years from now, it doesn't really matter. I just feel these cars need to get out and be seen. I have loved Corvettes since I was a tiny boy riding around in my fathers. I was able to share this with my son and for that I am happy.
I have attached more pictures of the car so anyone can get a feel of what the car is. I can always take more pictures. I know I always loved looking at for sale ads that had tons of pictures so I figured I would do the same..

Forgive me if I'm out of place. I am sorry for your loss. It is a man's greatest fear.
May I urge you to hang on to the car for a year. It won't be long and you just might want to take a drive.
getting rid of things that will remind you just may come to haunt you as a painful regret.

Sorry about the loss of your son. As a parent, I can't even begin to imagine losing a child.
I can see the point of letting some time pass before deciding to let her go but I also understand your sentiment of letting someone else enjoy the car and letting others enjoy seeing the car out on the road.

Matt, I just saw this ad. I am so sorry about you losing your son. Hopefully, in time, you will begin to enjoy things again. I remember when you bought this car. It is a beautiful big block. I agree with what the others have said. You may wish you had this car in time. Taking a good long drive is very therapeutic. Do what's right for you. Sometimes major decisions are better made when you're not experiencing grief and stress.
Best of luck with everything.
Paul

The car just wants to be driven and it's sad to see her sit. It's not a show car that you need to be afraid to drive. With that said, it's also in great shape that you don't need to do anything to it to enjoy it..
