Default 1978 Silver Anniversary Corvette-L82-4 Speed-Original Survivor REDUCED

SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD
Up for sale is my 1978 Corvette Silver Anniversary. This car is a four speed car, with the optional L-82 engine. Original paint, engine, carb, interior you name it, it is all factory original. This car comes with a mountain of original documentation, including: build sheet, owner manual, warranty information, consumer information, Goodyear tires warranty pamphlet, aluminum wheel maintenance sheet, freedom battery brochure, maintenance schedule pamphlet, warranty sticker sheet, and also mileage and maintenance records from 1982-1991.
ENGINE/TRANS
This L82 engine is numbers matching and factory original. This includes numbers matching and original carb, air cleaner/ram air tubes, aluminum intake, smog pump, manifolds, and ac system. The exhaust has been upgraded to a true dual exhaust system which is all new from manifolds to mufflers, with new hangers. The transmission is the M21 Borg-Warner close ratio four speed, which is original to the car. Rear end is the optional 3:36 gears. The car runs and drives great, and considering the era of car is actually pretty quick. The clutch engages and releases as it should.
BRAKES/SUSPENSION
The brakes on this car work great. The fluid has been bled with all new fluid. The amazing part about this car is the calipers, and rotors are factory originals and still in great shape. All the brake pads all the way around have plenty of stopping material on them. The master cylinder has been replaced, BUT I kept the factory original and it will come with the car. The car drives and stops straight. The entire power steering system has been replaced. This includes the power steering pump, slave cylinder, hoses, and control valve.
EXTERIOR
This Corvette sports its original two tone silver paint. It is the special “silver anniversary” paint that was special to that year. It is factory original and has never been painted. With this in mind there are imperfections in it, chips and scrapes here and there of 40 years of use. I would call it a good five footer. For being as old as it is, it is in remarkable shape. The emblems are all there and in good shape. All exterior lights and blinkers work like they are supposed to.
INTERIOR
The interior is all original and never has been restored. I personally would change out the carpet because after 40 years it has been better days. The rest of the interior is in great shape as seen in the pics. All the gauges work with the exception of the speedo, which I believe needs a new cable. The tach, fuel, ammeter, temp, and oil pressure gauge all work. The optional 8 track am/fm radio works, and the glove box comes with Elvis and John Denver 8 tracks. The AC in the car is functional as well. The car comes with the original leather GM t-top bags. Some of you will notice that the car has the “vega” type wheel that was stock for the 1976 Corvettes. At first glance one would think that the wheel has been swapped out at one point. I originally thought this, but researching deeper I found that from 1976-1979 if your corvette came with a NON-TILT column, you got the vega style wheel. This vette came from the factory with this wheel believe it or not. It is rare to see one.
I am asking $10,000 FIRM. Please do not contact me asking if I will take less, because I won't. I have a clean and clear title in my name for the car. I am interested in trades, but they must be either another Corvette or American made 1980 and older.
I have seen silver anniversary cars, four speed cars, and L82 cars. I have never seen these three valuable options in one car. Maybe one or two, but never all three. Take a look at hagerty’s valuation of these cars, all three of those options add the most value.

Small issues that the car has:
Carpet could use replaced, as light carpet gets dirty easily over 40 years. I have a full new set of carpet ready to install.
Speedometer does not work.
I will be working on these issues as time permits. The more I fix the less flexible the price will become.

Nice looking 78 you've got there. As an easy check, I'd disconnect the speedo cable from the transmission, chuck it up in a drill and run the drill backwards and see if the speedo turns. That could help determine if the problem is in the trans, or further down the line. Good luck selling it!

I'm guessing the last 5 digits of the VIN are lower in the cycle as your car has unpainted ss trim around the back window. My SA is in the 32K range for the year and it has a portion of that trim painted black.

Didn't know that about the steering wheel, and yes I picked up on it

I'm partial to the 78SA as well. Mine, like yours is an L-82 with optional close ratio four speed. I have the 3.70 rear though.

Good luck with your sale.

I believe mine has the 3.70 rear end as well, but I will have to take a look at the build sheet again! problem is mine is so faded that the lettering does not show in pics, it will show to the naked eye though!

Have a picture of a comparison? Trying to envision the difference myself.

Are you the original owner? Do you have owner history if not? How many miles are on the car?

I do believe the motor has been gone through at one point. I do not have any receipts to back this up, but I did notice that the valve stems have positive type stem seals on them, which require machining to install. There is no smoke from the tailpipes so there should be no need for a tear down anytime soon.

I will take a look into the documentation I got from the previous owner to verify.

I believe all 1978 and 1979 L-82/4 speed cars came with the 3.70 rear axle ratio.....Very Nice '78!

I have the same car with same options but with one other owner (my dad bought it new in '77) 12,000 original miles so there's at least one more out there...for now. It's currently getting an LS1 and T56 put in as well as a new single color paint job...so that will be one less in existence making your car more rare!
