Default For Sale: 1972 Coupe LS5 (454) 4-speed, very original PRICE REDUCED

This is a very original Elkhart Green with saddle leather coupe with 93k miles.
I have the original two-page build sheet from behind the dash (NCRS verified) and the tank sticker is still on the tank. Complete owner history is known--sold new at Kirsling Motors in Amherst, WI. Always in Wisconsin, NEVER driven in winter, always garaged.
This is an LS5 4-speed, with power steering, power brakes, power windows, air conditioning, tilt and telescopic wheel, AM/
FM, and deluxe leather interior all from the factory.
It has the ORIGINAL block, heads, intake, carb, alternator, distributor, air cleaner, shielding, AC compressor, exhaust manifolds, smog pump and diverter, brass tubular expansion tank, transmission with metal tag, differential, spare tire and wheel, jack and handle, seat belts, and shoulder belts, leather seats, dash, front and side grilles, all instruments, radio, antenna, t-top bags, rear window storage shelf, etc.
Very sold birdcage and frame. Runs shifts and brakes well. Rebuilt rear trailing arms, and replacement rear metal spring.
Asking $27,900 No hurry to sell, don't need help selling. I will listen to reasonable offers, but you can tell by the ad that I know what I have.
All glass is original, but the windshield has a c-shaped crack in the lower right corner (not visible when driving).

Seat belts and shouder belts work correctly--this car never had leaky t-tops or windshield frame. Because this is an early build car (October 1971) it has the seat belt timer, which works correctly. Seats are original leather, and are in good shape except for the one spot pictured.
All wiring harnesses except the rear harness are new. All factory alarm components are in place, but the alarm doesn't work. 3 of the 4 door switches are original SX, the fourth is GM NOS.

The body is excellent but not perfect--it has collided with a deer and an opossum in the left front (2 different incidents) and pictures show resilts of both. (Neither all that significant)
The paint has nice shine and good color, but prep work was inadequate and there is paint on door weatherstrips, some sanding scratches, and some dirt specks. I would call it a 5-6 out of 10. It is the correct green with the correct amount and size of gold metallic in the paint. Adequate for a driver, not good enough for NCRS.
The wiper door works but the wipers don't. Headlight buckets and headlights work well.

The radiator is a new DeWitts--the radiator shroud is a reproduction. All AC components are there except the hoses, and there is a new set of hoses with brass caps. AC will need to be serviced. Braided plug wires are NOS GM, not reproduction. The carburetor was recently rebuild. The idler pulley is in place and working as all belts are properly routed. Still has the original and tough to find big block with AC fan blade.
All gauges, including clock, work. Radio only works on AM. All three interior courtesy lights work, as do all exterior lights including backup lamps. Original horn works through the original horn relay.
This still has the always-missing AC duct with the circular vent that is behind and above the brake and clutch pedal.
I am attaching a sheet with all the original component dates on it.
I've had this car since 2008, bu am selling because I am ready to finish my 71 LT-s convertible over the winter and drive that.
You can probably see that the carpets have some dirt spots on them in the front from the PO's work boots.
In summary, this is a legit, never-abused 454 4-speed car. It needs cosmetics, but is a sold and mechanically sound. It's been taken care of over its 93k miles.
I'm in SW Wisconsin, about an hour and a quarter from Chicago O'Hare airport.
Not sure why, but pics showed up on next thread. Sorry

You really have to respect how someone took care of this car. If I was looking, this car would be impossible to pass.

I bought my 72 coupe from 62corvette after looking at a bunch of C3s. He is very knowledgable about C3s, and is incredibly honest in his description of what he is selling. I would buy another car from him without hesitation. Too bad I have neither the cash or the space for this one😞. Great guy to deal with.

Just plain old regular. Compression was lowered by GM beginning in 1971.

My guess is wrong time of year and preoccupation with the election. Based on what is out there on Craigslist for far less worthy cars, I think it is a solid value for someone who wants an original big block.

Like I said in an above post, 62corvette is a great seller to work with

your car looks like a very nice original but since you asked i think the pic of the windshield pillar vin may be a reason. there appears to a rust hole under the vin which may or may not lead to a much bigger issue.

Thanks for the input. I thought that the pics of the body mounts would demonstrate that there has been no water there, and that's not a hole by the vin tag. I didn't even think that it would be perceived to be a rust hole.

hi 62, my apology, i thought it was a hole and thought it may be a reason for some to shy away. i was surprised to see it since the vin area itself looks so clean , Nutsy

Hi Mike,
"Asking $29,500 No hurry to sell, don't need help selling, and not looking to be insulted by lowball offers. I will listen to reasonable offers, but you can tell by the ad that I know what I have."

"Bump. No interest? Too high? Wrong time of year?"

My thoughts….only because you asked:
Not quite original enough for someone looking for a BowTie candidate type car.
Not quite pretty enough for someone to buy and enjoy it the way it is.
Too much money for someone looking to do a serious restoration on a 70-72 car.
I think finding a buyer near your asking price will take a while.
Regards,
Alan

Mike,
If you find my thoughts detrimental to your sales effort PLEASE let me know and I'll delete my post.

Sounds like an honest assessment, I was thinking pretty much along the same lines.

Alan 71 I thought you really gave an honest and accurate reply.

It may hurt him initially but if he is honest within himself he will eventually agree.

I say that as I have a 65 for sale and won't budge on the price!
