1972 LT-1 Convertible with Color-Trim Override - Very Rare
I have owned this rare Corvette for many years and am considering selling it. Currently priced at $38,500 and being advertised elsewhere. If you travel to see the car, I’m located approximately 45 minutes North of Bush Intercontinental Airport (Spring, TX). Not interested in any trades.
Summary
In 1972, an estimated 405 Corvette LT-1 convertibles were manufactured. Of the 1972 Corvette LT-1 convertibles manufactured, an unknown but very small number had a “trim-color override” like this one does. The tank sticker, included with the sale, indicates this Corvette was ordered with a trim-color override so the new-for-1972 Targa Blue exterior paint color could be combined with Saddle interior. Chevrolet normally offered only blue or black interior colors with Targa Blue exterior paint. This is a very rare Corvette, and unlike in 1970 & 1971, you know this one is a legitimate LT-1 by the VIN number. Being a longtime Corvette owner and enthusiast, this one has always been garaged, well maintained, and never abused. Has approximately 82,2XX miles on the odometer that appear to be original but I cannot confirm.

Factory options
- LT-1 engine and associated drive train components
- Three-point (shoulder) seat belts
- Dealer or previous owner installed stainless luggage rack (not listed on tank sticker)
- Manual steering & manual brakes
Exterior
- Targa blue paint with white LT-1 stripes and white vinyl soft top
- Repainted by previous owner, and I have pictures of the car stripped down to the fiberglass
- Paint has a few minor scratches and body has a few minor stress cracks showing through the paint, but this car has placed first and second many times at car shows where participants vote
- Small area of fiberglass damage just above the passenger side rocker panel is only noticeable up close and was caused by previous owner, I just never got around to having it repaired
- White convertible top is like new, rarely used, clear back window
- Headlights & wiper cowl function properly
- Wire tab on back of alarm lock cylinder is broken off, but alarm worked when tested (just need replacement lock cylinder)
- GM 15 x 8 rally wheels have not yet verified by date code if they could be original to the car
- Brand new Cooper radial tires with RWLs (235 X 60 X 15)
Interior
- Originally standard interior, updated with leather seat covers by previous owner
- Door panels have been replaced by previous owner
- Original radio and gauges work, except the clock (works intermittently)
- Carpet floor mats included
- No known cracks in dash pad, console, or door panels
- Leather seats conditioned regularly
- Rear storage compartment, alarm, and spare tire lock not keyed to existing round headed key
- A small part of the rear compartment surround upper trim is broken off
Engine & drive train
- Numbers matching block and heads with correct intake & valve covers
- Engine paint appears to be original and in overall presentable condition.
- Service replacement Holley 780 circa 1977 or 1987 (list 6239, same as original) is not on the car, but included with sale (needs a rebuild)
- Holley 750 is currently on the car and runs well
- GM logo upper radiator hose
- GM logo upper heater hose and ribbed lower heater hose were removed and included in the car (suspected of leaking)
- Chrome distributor cover, side wire covers, and lower plug heat shields are on the car, lower chrome plug covers are missing
- Spark plug wires labeled Packard TV R Suppression 1-Q-72
- Allen’s aluminized steel chambered exhaust system installed by previous owner
- Air Injection Reactor (AIR) system removed by previous owner and is not included
- Transmission is believed to be original and numbers matching, but not confirmed. Side cover number is 3952648. See http://www.5speeds.com/muncie2.htm. Metal tag attached to side cover via bolt is 8271516WO.
- Differential is believed to be numbers matching, but not confirmed
- Differential has a Muskegon Brake heavy duty cover and 3.70:1 gear ratio based on ~3,000 rpms @ 70 mph
Chassis & undercarriage
- Clean, solid frame with no rust or rot that I have ever found or can see
- Original upper ball joints still on car and in good condition
- Aftermarket shock absorbers (red in color)
- Overall clean with no known or visible issues

Thanks jr9170, these colors do look great together.
TTT - Price reduced based on updated market comparison of other LT-1 convertibles (there aren't many out there)
