1968 Corvette L71 Convertible-24604 original miles-$88,500
THIS CAR IS SOLD. Thank you for your time and comments.
I believe this is one of the lowest original mile 1968 L71 Convertibles out there for sale.
Purchased new at Bernard Chevrolet in Libertyville, IL. Owned since 1983. Protecto-Plate, original dealer envelope with manuals. 3 owners. Signed statements from first two owners verifying mileage. Copies of titles verifying mileage. (Second owner was brother).
Rare color combination. Corvette Bronze with Tobacco interior. Pinstripe was applied by Bernard Chevrolet before the car was put on the showroom floor. Both tops. Believed to be all original except for two belts, tires, brakes, master cylinder, fluids, accelerator rod, and battery. 427, 435HP. Tri Power. Four speed. Never been judged. Looking for a good home.
$84,900

I so shouldn't be posting here because I couldn't afford this even if I sold both kidneys, but why not take this one to a Mecam or BJ auction? You could put the reserve at 100K and after watching a nothing special 80 go for 33 last month you shouldn't have a problem getting 100. Just a thought.... Probably an incorrect one, but my .01.

That's a legitimate question. I've participated in auctions, and quite frankly I don't trust the process. Everything seems good to go until you and your car get up on the block. Then you have one guy distracting you so you can't listen to the bidding, another yelling at you to remove the reserve, etc. Very confusing. Also, the regulars seem to get preferential treatment vs. just regular guys trying to sell their car. That, and the expense of transport, fees, lodging, etc. put me off on auctions.
I feel that the merits and rarity of this car should allow for me to sell it without using the live in person auction process. I've lowered the price to make it very reasonable for a car of this quality, originality, and provenance. Im hoping it will now be a no brainer for that certain buyer.
By the way, here is the engine pad. Not a great pic, but obviously you can see it's original.

Glws! My father purchased his 68' new with the same color combo when I was a kid except he had the 390 HP. engine in it. I still remember my Mom driving it with my brother and I in the front seat. Nice looking car!

Why give Mecam or BJ money-fees- commission-etc when he can just advertise it for free on several sites and keep every penny ??? Say he sells it for 100K at auction...he's only going to walk away with 80K and then have to pay taxes on that, the IRS will be there...... not the path I would choose to sell this car.

While it makes perfect sense to advertise everywhere and hope for a personal sale, it also makes perfect sense to take a special car like this to auction where there's buyers looking for special cars.
