1978 Silver Anniversary L48 - 58k miles
This is going to be tough, but I think it's the right time. I've owned the car for about 13 years. I bought it with around 56,XXX miles and it has 58,2XX. I've put in a lot of money, blood, sweat, and tears over the years. I've put likely well over $20k into the car since I've owned it.
PRICE: $11,000
Location: Chicago - Far NW Suburbs
Description:
1978 Chevrolet Corvette, L-48 numbers matching 350 V8 engine, TH350 automatic transmission, special silver anniversary two tone paint (it was repainted back in the mid 2000’s, outside of 4-6 small rock chips that is easily repaired, would be considered excellent paint. It’s literally a 1 footer paint job that's been covered in a garage since it was re-painted and driven less than 2,000 miles). I'd say it's 8.5+ out of 10 with the couple chips. All NOS emblems, etc.. used by body shop. Oyster leather interior from Corvette America, was originally a cloth/vinyl interior. The trim tag confirms the original paint color (2-tone Silver Anniversary) and Oyster Cloth interior.
- All new heater/radiator hoses, new thermostat, and coolant flushed.
- All new vacuum lines supplied by Dr. Rebuild. Re-hooked up the emissions equipment that someone thought would be good to break off and or disconnect, when in reality they robbed it of power with open vacuum lines.
- Rebuilt the TH-350 transmission back in 2005, added a shift kit. Replaced transmission pan (2017) also have original, replaced kick down cable connection o-rings (had a small leak), speedometer housing (had a small leak), pan gasket, fluids, etc.. in 2018.
- Replaced orig. cloth/vinyl seats with new foam and leather.
- Replaced carpets and door panels, with sound deadening and insulation
- Restored stock radio and wiring (just needs to be installed). Previous owner had a tape deck installed, but kept the stock radio. I was able to fix the tuner on the radio, and have tested it in the car
- New battery 2017
- New Fuel Filter 2017
- Rear differential fluid change using GM gear oil and GM Posi fluid - 2017
- Brakes, spark plugs, wires, front hub/ and new bearings - approx 1,000 miles on them.
- 58,2XX+ documented miles.
- Birdcage in great shape, see pics.
- Have a binder full of paperwork since the car was bought. Information on owners, mileage statements, purchase agreements, work done on the car, etc..
- Car does have undercoating on the frame, etc.. from back in the 70's/80's.
Punch list of items that I was going to do this spring/summer that you can choose whether you do or not:
- Install radio, repair antenna mast (have the kit, just haven’t got around to it)
- Tires, likely you’ll want to replace these soon. They have plenty of tread, but age wise they are now at the point to be changed.
- Clock doesn’t work, was going to do a quartz swap at the same time as the radio install.
- Air Conditioning doesn’t work. Clutch doesn't engage. With the t-tops, I never would have used it anyways.
- Adjust drivers window glass. Easy to do, just on the list.
I have a decent amount of post history on my car and whatnot, feel free to browse it or ask any questions.

Here are some addt'l pics.
Note in the behind the kickpanel pics, you'll see some oil cloth type stuff that was in there along with remnants of that at the bottom. I don't know what that is, but left it in there. There is no thin spots/holes, etc... Just a small amount of surface rust. I can take more pics and add for folks if they like.

Car is sold...
Hard to let it go, but it was time taking a car that was heading down a rough path and bringing it back to glory. 13 years and I don't even want to talk about how much I spent on it. But knowing it'll prob. be out there at least another 20 or so before it needs another significant refreshing/restoration makes me feel good. Maybe we'll cross paths again, who knows.
