Carl now that's interesting!!!! It's raining and cold up here now but nice earlier for a drive!!!! Hmm I wonder if its doable from that far?????
Its a nice combination of everything I have been looking for. Missing some shielding in the engine bay the AIR ram pump (correct?) and some weird wiring for the A/C. Maybe I will give him a call to see whats up. Thanks again Carl!!! Making my life difficult!!! Anyone near Gainesville????
Scotty is right I have had to pass on two nice cars, including Scotty's because they were orange. Can't have the same color.Won't know whats going on!!! Ike

Carl and all, just spoke to the owner. First question he asked me is why I was calling, I told him I was considering buying the Vette, why else. Apparently he has been inundated with sales people, trades offers and all kinds of insanity. I told him to now wait for the Nigerian scammers that will come next!!!!
On to the car, sadly it has gone thru some repairs without thought to maintaining originality. Biggest issue is that the car was originally yellow and repainted to blue. Carb, distributor, rims, A/C compressor, convertible top not original nor correct replacements. A/c not working as well.
So sadly no trip to sunny Florida for me. Too many issues to overcome especially when adding distance to the equation!!
But thank you Carl, keep them coming greatly appreciate your assistance!!!
Going to see one tomorrow very locally. It overpriced but my concern is that its Burgundy with a tan interior. HMMMM not sure about that color combo. But worth a look. Thanks again Ike ( from a rainy and damp NY),

Well, it looked like a nice car in the ad and from how the seller described it, it seemed to be very original. Oh well, off to the next one, right?
IMO, burgundy and tan is a killer combo, but colors and combinations thereof are subjective.
Good luck with tomorrow's find. Keep us posted on your progress.

Yeah Carl, most look good, but once you start digging in that the truth comes out. Greatly appreciate the lead non the less. Every car is a chance to learn a little more.
Burgundy and tan huh?? Don't see it much. I guess it was not a popular color back in the day? Very European. ! guess we will see when I get some eyes on it, after all I was very concerned about orange and now I love it!! Ike. .

Carl your killing me!!!! The pic does not match the ad by the way. I assume they are two different ones?
I know I am going to get "beat up" for this but I am still having trouble with cars that are not close to me as a purchase option. I think you need a very knowledgeable and willing seller to help breakdown the car for you if your shopping from a distance. I generally don't seem to find these people. The forum sellers seem to be the best and I am sure more exist but........
I cannot see driving hours or getting on a plane or driving to a car that to find that it was not described correctly. Been there/done that. Plus condition is somewhat arbitrary and different in one persons view to another.
I went and saw a 1971 locally. The owner and I discuseed the car a decent amount over the phone. He was somewhat knowledgeable but not very computer. photo literate. The car is priced at the top of its range if not above. What I found was a decent car with many small but significant issues. Wrong carb, fiber optics not working, wiper spray components missing, a tear in the soft top, overall worn interior, cracks on the door cards etc etc. But the biggest issue was the body/paint condition, a major crack in the fiberglass below the cowl vent and the fender. A odd crack across the rear quarter panel , multiple spidering and small cracks. A inordinate amount of rock chips in a odd location and a overall poor paint.
Again none of these are insurmountable issues but not at that price. Its not even close!!!!! If I had traveled any distance to see this car I would have been quite upset!!!!! Not to mention the cost these failed trips add to the price of the car you ultimately buy and then the shipping costs involved.
So I am not oppose to a car that is far, but the owner needs to know what they have and be willing to be honest about it and work with me to vet the car out. I don't see owners like this that often. Either they can't bother, are uninformed, don't want to know or have the used car salesman attitude.
Greatly appreciate your leads however. Keep them coming!!!! At a minimum it gives me a good idea as to were the market is.

Ike- check it out here ...

I understand about the questionable descriptions the sellers give, and how descriptive they end up (not) being. You spend adequate time on the phone with these sellers and you seem to know the right questions to ask. You may find a car and seller you are comfortable enough with where you would take a trip with some degree of confidence.
You mentioned the car you recently saw is a fail, but what are your thoughts about the Burgundy/Tan color combo?

Carl Thanks again for your assistance. ts greatly appreciated. The Steel Gray is a great looking car. I am not sure I am looking to spend that kind of $$$$ however and hold onto two C3s. Tough to decide!!!!!
Regarding the Burgundy/Tan combo I have found a new admiration. It may not be my first choice in color combos but definitively something to consider!!!! Again thanks for the links and keep them coming!!!!
Corvette Ed, sadly your first link is to a Orange car. My current coupe is orange so a second orange is out. The second one is interesting, looks like nice paint but the interior is beat up. Not much info so I will call the ad and see what they have to say. Great price but parts will ad to cost quickly!!
69Chevelle my friend. I keep opening and closing your link. Its a very interesting car. I wish it were closer. Green is not necessarily my favorite color combo, no insult intended. But its a nice looking car!!! HMMMMMM. I am pming you for more cursory details.
Thanks again to everyone for their assistance. Ike

And I agree about leaving the center caps and trim rings off, I did that on my Chevelle SS wheels that are on my 65 Corvair convertible. I can't stand the scratching, and they're hard to remove without marring the ring. And it also gives it the hubcaps off for the parking lot rally of the day.

That gold car looks great, exactly what I envisioned after reading the EXTENSIVE and awesome write-up! Agreed, that write-up should be required reading for anyone looking to sell a car. Well done, Mike!
I wouldn't repaint it either. Maybe it can be scuffed and clear-coated to preserve it/bring back luster.

Nice car! If it's lacquer get some Meguiar show glaze and put it on thick on the paint. Let it sit for 3-4 days or longer. Then use a spay detailer and wipe it off. The oils in the show glaze will absorb into the lacquer and bring the paint shine back out. I have done this on my original paint cars and it works great!
