buying first corvette
Im buying my first corvette and ive had my eye on one. I want the car as a hobby to put money into and do the work myself. Let me know if there is a reason not to buy, thanks.

Well, its not really original..The rear clip is from an 80 vette....That's ok...My first vette was a 76 set up exactly like this one w the same rear clip....
Check it out just like you would any other car....Even if it has some rust, just scrape the areas and apply POR-15....L-82 engine is a plus....Check for leaks throughout ....
As far as paint, see if you could may be do some paint correction to present itself a little better...
Go there w cash and bargain if it basically checks out....Looks like a fun driver....You want something like that for the price.....

The L82 is a plus except it has after market air cleaner, valve covers, intake, headers and probably carb and heads. It depends on what you want. Do you want a very original car or one that has been modified? There are a lot of cars for sale in that price range.

Thank you for the feedback KingRat. The first thing ive been looking for is a manual transmission. Makes driving for me 10x more fun in my opinion. But i am willing to work on the car. Im not too focused on an original car unless it is modified too much to where it takes the "corvette value" out of it. In the future would i be able to replace the rear clip?

Yes. The trouble with putting the rear bumper back to stock is trying to match that red paint. I run across these cars all of the time. Other than four speed, what are you looking for? Color, engine, year, coupe, convertible. Are you willing to travel or do you want a car close to you?

It looks suspicious to me. I'd rather pay a lot more 2.5X, for one in a lot better condition.
..But then again, buying used is sometimes a grind to find both the right car and the right price. That's my analysis.

I wouldn't put orig bumper on. The 81 style is a major improvement. This is not going to be a car judged on originality. It is no more or less valuable either way. And prettier as is.

I like all of the C3 up until 79. My grandpa had an 05 6 speed that I fell in love with. But it was just too expensive for me when they decided to sell it. But he also had a c3 before I was born that was a beauty. I havent been able to figure out what year it was though. I inherited all of his old corvette books that he had and ive been looking through them trying to learn more about the history of corvette. The most I would spend is around 10k for a c3 right now. Im just looking to get started in the corvette world so i can work on it and get to know it a little bit better. So i dont mind if the car is a little bit run down. I just want to make sure i dont "screw up" when buying one, meaning having to put just as much money into it as I spent on it. Do you know how much It would cost to get a paint job on the whole car?

70-72...That's my guess....If your going to pay 7-8 thousand for a corvette is it really worth painting ?
A really really good paint job requires many hours of preparation especially on fiberglass...I think the cheapest would be $ 5,000....A really good paint job ? Double that.....Paint correction and a good compound and buff and you should like the results...

I'm a restoration specialist and these older vettes have rot where you'll have to do quite a bit of fabricating . The aftermarket parts don't fit and are poor quality , Figure to do a quality restoration will cost roughly 20k in parts and drive train rebuild and years of not driving it . Buy a restored car and start enjoying it right away .

Fixer vettes are the most expensive. 10k can buy a nice late c3.in ca youll need to pass smog too
see the fs here youll find a lot nicer ones in your range...cl is full of flipper junk.
