454 Engine w/ M21 Trans
SOLD! SOLD!
I am selling my 1973 454 engine and close ratio M21 trans as an assembly. I really don't want to part it out. I'm getting a new engine and trans replacement. The transmission shifts and works perfectly, and has a good 1330 Slip Yoke. The picture shows exactly how it all came out of the car. It includes the starter, fuel pump, exhaust manifolds, bell housing, clutch, Z-Bar & linkage from Speed Direct, and a Van Steel rebuilt Driveshaft. The engine was running when I took it out, but it needs a rebuild. It already has some good parts listed below that I installed less than 500 miles ago:
Comp Timing Gear & Double Row Roller Chain Set.
Comp Cams 224/230 hydraulic roller cam; very mild with a little bit of lope.
Comp Retro Roller Lifters, one pair needs to be replaced.
Comp Valve Springs and Retainers.
Comp 7/16" Screw-in Rocker Studs.
Comp Pushrods with Adjustable Guide Plates.
Cloyes Aluminum Timing Cover with adjustable cam button.
Edelbrock Performer 2 Aluminum Intake.
Holley 750 Square Bore Vacuum Secondary Carb, works well, but needs tuning.
Holley 650 Spread Bore Vacuum Secondary Carb, needs rebuild.
The above assembly does not come with a water pump, rocker arms, valve covers, distributor, harmonic balancer, or a shifter. If you want to convert your small block automatic to a big block 4-speed, this is the way to go.
Take it all for $1800, or best offer. I prefer local pickup, but I'll ship it for an additional charge.
Thanks for looking,
John

I think the rings are fine because it doesn't smoke. Compression figures ran from 150 to 170 psi. I know the heads need a valve job because I could hear air escaping from #1 cylinder when I pressurized it during the valve spring install. And besides, the engine would run a lot better, and be about 80 lbs. lighter, with a set of inexpensive Edelbrock heads.
