Default 1971 Corvette A Production GT-1 Race car.

1971 Corvette A Production/GT-1 Race Car.

This 1971 Corvette was built into an A Production race car in 1974. A 1971 Corvette body was used along with a NEW from GM 1974 Corvette frame. All the frame modifications outlined in the GM Corvette racing book were incorporated in the car. The front suspension also has further modifications to the lower A arms to provide additional caster for better turn in ability. The lower control arms are boxed. The bushings are solid with grease fittings. The steering box is Corvette relocated ½ forward to help with the caster modification. The upper control arms are stock. The car uses Corvette brake calipers with are missing. All mounting brackets are complete. The frame is fully gusseted. The rear suspension is mounted ½ inch lower with the solid aluminum mounting kit. The rear strut rods are solid ends with full adjustment. The rear spring is a special 7 leaf spring. The trailing arms are Corvette. The car has a full cage that extends to the front of the car and the rear or the car. The driver’s compartment is fully caged with very nice aluminum work for the dash and rear driver’s compartment. The dash is fully equipped with Stewart Warner gauges. The driver’s seat is period. The steering wheel is nice and is removable. Both doors open completely and have very nice aluminum door panels.

This Corvette has a removable front end. The car was run as it appears in pictures with the wide body front nose and L88/ZL1 rear flairs. A 1978 rear window and rear bumper body assembly was also added. These cars ran this way so as not to modify the door with flairs which would have moved the car to a prototype class. The t-top’s are removable. The body is in good shape with 2 hoods. The left front headlight cover is missing. The car has never been crashed according to the builder/driver. The paint scheme is as last run in 1983.

This car has the SCCA log book for the GT-1 portion of its racing life. The SCCA number is stamped in the roll cage. The driver/builder is still around and can relate the A production history. He has not been able to find the first log book.

This will make a GREAT vintage race with previous race history and log book! The car is very solid and is sold as a roller less engine/transmission. It would not take a lot of work to get this car back in competition. Digital pictures are available. Car is located in Nashville, Tennessee.
