Default How to identify Dana rears

I jumping over from the C2 forum to try and find out how you can tell the difference between a Dana 44 (from manual trans cars) and the Dana 36 (normally from the auto equipped cars). Is there a visual id, number or what. I plan to use a Dana 44 in my C2 with a SRIII tubular frame. Can someone help me out????? Thanks

I think the most easily recognizible thing is that the D36 has three bolts across the top of the cover, where the D44 has two. Mr. Mojo usually has a picture he posts. You might be able to find it with a search.

Found it! Hmmm amazing how that search tool can help you out sometimes! Thanks for the help, and Yup looks like I did end up with a Dana 44, even better pretty darn cheap.

Yes, the 3 bolts along the top edge are the main giveaway for the D36. Just don't confuse the upper tie rod bracket bolt as the D36 bolt. All 3 are right along the very top edge.
