I used a piece of hardboard with some foam padding. I then covered it with white vinyl and used interior spray dye to match the interior color. I used one of the aftermarket bumper emblems from Corvette Central to cover up a black smudge I got on it when I unknowlingly got some paint on my hand and touched the panel after I installed it.
If you use the Search feature here you should find some posts on how to do this. There is also some more info on www.corvetteactioncenter.com
This is what the dash looks like after the upper cover and breadbox are removed:
Here is the new panel. Be sure to connect the AC vent well. I had to redo it as the hose came 1/2 off. I used duct tape the 2nd time to make sure the hose stayed on the vent tube. There was not a lot of room to work in there. The new panel is secured at each corner with sheet metal screws painted black (thus the paint smudge on my hand).
I have seen where others have used black plastic and put a C4 emblem on it and another member who installed a LCD screen in his!
As a side note: NEVER paint your dash cover a light color. It reflects something awful. I had to change it back.

I recently replaced my bread box with a flat panel from ecklers when I replaced the heater core in my 89. Instead of using the double sided tape, I used black screws to hold it in place. It looks like the rest of the dash that is held in with black screws. I also cut the original black flex vent rather than use their cheap white one they sent. I really like it. I Sent a picture e-mail to you because I don't know how to post pictures. If you can post pics, you can post it. I would liked to have seen one before I changed mine!

Yes, it's carbon fiber and yes the glare is from the flash. I will not recommend the outfit i got it from. It was a years worth of BS and still didn't get the black i ordered. It's a long long story but all i'm out is the duty and shipping 3 times
Someday i will get it in black
And stay away from "The Auto Accessory Store" which is based near you

Hi Ken,
Happy new year to you and Michelle!!
Your new year bonfire party was pretty cool!
I think this breadbox removal solution looks great - and you can even watch DVD's !
