Default Why are they so cheap?

I know I should be posting this in the c3 forum, but I feel weird going over there.

Recently, Ive been thinking how frikkin cool the c3s are. My friend has nice a '78 vert. Every time I see it, I stare at her like a hot chick with tig ol' bittys. In addition, Chris Tucker drives a black beauty vert stingray in Rush Hour 2. So, Ive been thinking... Lets just look and see what there is. Not buy, but look.
No body is selling their C3s. Whats the deal? I went to AutoTrader.com and did the search for under $30,000 and within 200 miles. Only about ten C3s showed. Yet they were all cheap. You would think that with such low supply, they would be much more expensive. I guess there is no demand.

Just look at this:
1981 4spd. grey int.
93K miles
$8495

I think she looks pretty frikkin good. And she wasnt the only one.

This one looks pretty good too.
1982 'low miles' for $9500

Funny thing is there were 12 listings all '81s and '82s.

, even this '81 "runs great" for $5000 dont look too bad.

Doesn't seem cheap to me. Compare the 82 to 84
then compare the 96 97
67 68
etc etc

I loved the looks of my '79, but the performance just wasn't there.

A convertible '78? Now THERE'S a rare car.

Most of the C3s that I have looked at are not in the best of shape. If you find a good one, you'll pay top dollar for it.

I don't care how cheap it is, I can't afford the maintenance of two older Corvette. I spent way too much money on the 88 already, just to keep it running. :mad

Wouldn't mind to have a convert. C3 with a L98 or LT1 in it though :yesnod:

Depending on the year, they are VERRRRRRRY different animals. A nice 80-82 is going to be plush, nice ride, AC, power everything, while a 68 or 69 is going to be loud, rude, gas guzzling and evil. Mine leans more towards the early cars and is more old school musclecar than refined sports car. I love my 88 but I would never sell the 75. If you are thinking of getting one, they seem to be on the rise in price so get one now before they get like the C2's.

Fastguy is right about the differences. Drive a big block and then drive a smog friendly 78. Big difference in performance. I had a 75 that wasn't fast, but man was it cool. A red coupe with a bright disco silver interior. I never should have sold that car. I bought it about 5 years ago for $4500 and did some restoration and later sold it for $7000 so I could buy a 92 Z07. Should have never sold that car........ :( :(

There's a very wide range in prices depending on the year, options, and 'class'. I.e. show car, driver, or basket case. I've seen ranges from a few grand for a basket case to well in the $100K range for a prime early C3. You can get a nice 'driver' early c3 for a very reasonable price (low teens). However, if you want a prime convertible 1970 LT-1, that's just a whole different game...

A guy I work with bought a '75 for $6K. He took out the engine and replaced it with a 425 HP big-block engine. Total cost of new engine and installation: another $6K. So, for just $12K, he has a beautiful C3 that can out-perform most C5's.

I sold my 76 L-82 a few months ago, sold it for $1500 more then I paid for it and still could have got more but I sold it to a friend and gave him a good deal.. but when it comes to comfort and performance the C4 has it all over the C3s......

I bought a 76 in 76, only kept it until I drove an 85. Instant trade in! The C4 types have more style, comfort, and HP.
