Now that I finally have the beast back together I need to get a windshield for it. It's for the 85. I've talked to a few different places and a lot of the price seems to depend on if they have to replace the molding or not. The molding seems to cost more than the actual windshield. Who has done gone through all this before? Am I gonna have to spend $500 for a windshield? Any advice is appreciatted..

I just had mine replaced. The insurance company paid for mine because some punks shot 3 holes in it. I am glad I only had to pay the deductable of $100. The whole windsheld and weatherstriping and other little pices came to somewhere around $800 or more. Once I get home I can post exactly what needed to be replaced and how much it cost. I am not sure if it will be the same from my 1992 to your 1985 but it will give you an idea.

I wanted to bite the head off of a nail just now. Some Guy in the store parking lot(I fooled him too, told him it was a '96) was complimenting me on how nice the paint was... THEN went to the windshield and noticed the chip I'd had since the day I bought the car. :mad :mad :mad How much is a windshield? I can't stand hearing about that little chip! :mad :mad :( :crazy:

I had mine replaced by Harmon Autoglass last year. My Insurance paid for the whole thing but the bill reads as follows

Had mine replaced awhile back. I only paid $100 ded. but the whole bill was around $750. The molding is about $220. Sometimes the old can be reused if you can get it off in one piece but unless it has been replaced recently I would suggest replacing it or you might be sorry if it leaks. They probably won't gauruntee it unless you replace it. Have you tried your ins. ? Usually this is covered. Good Luck, Guy

I watched a really good glass guy change mine. He felt through the rubber for the screw heads, pulled back the rubber and removed the screws. He removed the weatherstrip, weatherstrip track and the side and upper reveal mouldings all in one piece. He reinstalled them with some sort of sealer under the weatherstrip track. Looks great and cost $305.00.

I'm getting mine done Friday in my driveway. Windshield, metal trim + weather stripping. I'll let you know the cost.

LOF windshield & instsalation 195.00

Total cost of $531.00 All parts were original GM including the LOF windshield. I bought all the moldings & weatherstriping myself & gave them to the glass instaler, I saved alot of money that way.

$100 for the windshield, if you pick it up here in NC, I have about 20 to choose from. They are used, but some have no chips/cracks, and others....well, someone had a headache the next day.

I have a plain clear windshield on my ZR-1 mainly because of the annoying peel of the lexan, I couldn't see spending the big bucks for something that is going to fall apart again anyway.
