Default Top speed w/auto. Do you use overdrive?

I was wondering when you do a top speed run are you using overdrive or does it bog down the car? Also how long a strech of road do you need?

When I do a "burst" run, I have it in OD. But then I'm not realy looking for top speed. That would give me over 230mph, if she had the torque to do it. So 3rd gear would be the gear of choice for a true top speed run.

I am over 100mph in the 1/4 mi, so I should think that within a mile she would flatten out. If you start from say 60mph, probably 1/2 mi would be adequate. So you could get the job done in about 30 seconds or so.

BTW, a friend recently told me that he had his GS up to 185, but didn't say how long it took. He did mention that he didn't feel like he wanted to keep it there very long.

You would have to do a top speed run in OD. My '89 redlines at 121 mph in D.
Your '91 should be good for about 160 mph or so. Takes the L98 awhile to get there though.

I'd like to see what she can do but I don't know where to try it in central Jersey. I thought overdrive would bog it down like 6th gear does to manuals. Save The Wave: Isn't the rev-limiter on L98's around 5200. Your pushing those revs at 121 in drive?
65Z01: 185 has got to be a RUSH. I take it that GS is not stock. Or is it an LT4?

I have taken it to 142mph in OD. I don't think there are enough rpms in D to do more than 120mph. Getting to 130 is very quick, then from 130 to 142 took a while. I could see the number on the digi dash change 1 at a time.

CJ: I love that pic. Was your Vette stock? I assume the top was up.
SMASH: I'm not sure what year the GS was availible but if it was 96 then it could have a LT4.

It drove fine in OD, I had no problems getting up to speed, the car was stock except for muffler elims.

Yep, top was up, I went fast before, but above 140MPH, it gets a little windy.

I'll get the ZR-1 up there sometime, but I have to be careful when and where, but I'll try to get a picture for sure!

I've been trying to figure out where I can go for a top speed run before I re-gear. I just really worry about ending up in jail. getting too old to sleep in a cold cell. :yesnod:

Ray8,

That's cool! That's about 173mph! We need a road like that in the states. :D :D :D

BILLY D,

Smash/Kale/Vale/Whale is being a smart alec! :p: All 1996 Grand Sports came with an LT4. That's the only way you could get 'em and he knows it! GS were also only available in '96.

I don't think I've ever hit the rev limiter. At 121 it was redlined though. I have the G92 option, and it will redline at 92 in second and 121 in D.
