Auto Vs. Stick in an AutoX

A 6m is the only way to go. On and off the convertor would build up to much trans temp trying to keep the revs in the power band.

I use to autox a bunch, but I haven't lately. Roger Johnson is the king of C4 autocrossers and he uses an automatic L98. In CP (mostly tube framed, muscle type cars) folks are winning with automatics that have lower stall speed converters, that way, they are closer to direct drive. Higher stall speed converters don't seem to work as well in an autox situation.

The stick is preferred in autocrossing the same way a auto is preferred in drag racing...During Autocrossing it gives you better control of your gearing in turningand slowing down. Plus you have a much better assortment to choose from. Hey I am not flaming the auto so don't hurt me..

I've been auto-x'ing for 3 years and have placed 1st in my class each year with my 6 speed. A manual gives control of the RPM range much better than an automatic. Many of the automatic guys that are serious about auto-x’ing have traded or sold their automatics for manuals.
Can you have fun auto-x’ing with a automatic? Of course, but get a manual if you are serious about it.

What if it is run with a higher stall preventing lockup in the lower RPM band?
