Default How to replace tail light bulbs on 1986?

I know I've seen this in the past on here. I searched and can't find anything. Anyone know how to access these the easy way?

There is no really "easy" way. Just depends how long and skinny your arms are.

Most remove the tag and go in from there. To get the outer ones you have to remove the inner ones. (3 10mm bolts)

Others have said that they can get them from under the rear bumper.

you can reach up from under, push the tab down and spin,

or take of your plates to get to the two inside ones.
hope this helps

Is there any reason to unscrew the 2 10mm bolts if your just going to change the bulbs? I'm going to change all 4 and don't see a need to take off the housing. -Thanks for the photo!

Hi Brian,

I am having the same trouble with an 85.

I tried the plate and couldnt reach the inside bulb...looked underneath and it doesnt look good from below either.

I like the photo Wayne posted - I'll try again tomorrow.

To change the outer bulb you have to remove the inner TL housing. Then go thru the inner hole to get to the outer bulb.

Also, You can get your arm thru the license hole, it just takes some finesse, don't try to 'muscle' it thru.

I found the only way to get at the outter bulbs is from the side of the quarter panel. You have to do it by feel. The quarters are flexable enough to pull out to get your arms up where you can feel around for the bulbs. Unless your arms are as thin as a 5 year old you wont be able to go behind the license plate. That may sound nice according to the book 101 projects for your C4 but its not reality for the outside bulbs.
