Default Minor interior tinkering...sort of ;) [modem burner]

Decided to search for that annoying squeaking sound in my interior.... Or rather do a full interior redo.

Starting point:

4 hours later:

6 hours later:

Some of the bits we took out:

Well, lets put some sound insulation in there while the stuffings are out:

Here is my game plan:
1. full custom interior, the bits in the photo above will be upholstered in fine European black leather with grey stiching. Yes, also the door panels, dash, steering wheel, targa hoop, emerg. brake and all the various other bits you see in the photo above except sills, knee panels and door panel lower carpet sections which will be done in black alcantara.

1b. also the plastic backs and skirts of the seats will be made in leather.

2. 2-3 times the normal sound insulation (bitumen + full coupe MAD insulator kit like the first bits visible on the cardan (gear) tunnel + some foam where possible)

3. new black mass back carpetting from MAD (sills, knee pads and door lower carpets will not be used, see #1)

4. a nice MP3/DVD head unit + Alto Mobile 150M digital amp + 2 x 8" subs + 5 1/4 separates kit. Will make the front and rear speaker housings and covers myself.

5. hardwired blootooth handsfree kit for mobile phone by Sony Ericsson

6. new black GM seat belt kit, arrived today from Ecklers

7. various little bits which look shiny and worn after 15 years will be renewed: horn buttons, gear **** button, new interior screw set etc etc.

8. new roof, cracked my transparent top and replaced it with plastic top which is being repainted at the moment.

Hope to be ready in about 3 weeks....maybe

To be continued.

if you do this for a minor interior creak, I would hate to think what would happen if you had a paint scratch.

Keep us posted! Looks like an interesting project!

How did you separate the rear carpet from the rear compartment lids?

Oh... and all that work and I bet you'd still have a ton more before you got to the heater core.

Nothing apparently. My paint sucks big time. But I just talked to my paint guy and he said "full show paint will take 250 hours of work while reshaping your car, doing base work etc. uummm...lemmesee, with some discount it will end up 11.500 euros ($14864) in work alone + materials". So, I calmly decided to do nothing with the paintwork this year And maybe I will settle with something less than universes best show quality paintwork. So, IMO $3-5K paintjobs look just fine enough for me... Really, I want to drive my car, not keep it vacuum sealed and live scared waiting for that first paint scratch!

Take out the rear compt. locks and that is it. Easy.

Yeah, I guess. I can't even see it yet! If it ever starts to leak I will dynamite my car for sure!

This guy: edit his link has expired

you probably noticed that I am located in Europe? Ignore the weird language of mine and take a look at the photo galleries under each project. First projects are under work so only "before pictures are shown. Scroll down for completed jobs.

Nice project that should really make you happy. Wish i had the funds, but i'm sure one day i will follow your lead.
On a side note, i just installed a motorola bluetooth kit and love it. It even mutes the stereo when a call comes in. That was one of the main reasons i picked the model i did, because i have a stereo similar to what your looking to do, and it is always cranked.

I have this one in my daily driver: this link has died too and don't have the pic anymore

Comes with a mic and a speaker, supports voice dialing if your phone does, mutes the stereo and supports most makes of bluetooth capable phones. It also supports 5 different phones and identifies them automatically when you enter the car. Color tab indicates which one is active at the moment. Great product. I will install another one to my Vette.

Next day:

Finished with sound insulations inside the car. Doors still need some insulations. Rear of the car now has bitumen insulator+MAD insulation kit + factory insulations. In front we have bitumen + MAD kit.

MAD kit has the right and left side of car mixed up so we had to install them foil side up to make them fit Even the installation sheet has the hand brake on the passenger side

Well, the heat shield foil is not that important in Finland anyway so this problem doesn't stop the work.

We also drilled a hole to firewall and routed power cable for the amplifier, installed same gauge ground cable, rear sub speaker cables and a signal cable. I also strengthened the seams inside the rear speaker boxes with body glue to make sure they are airtight.

Now it seems like progress. It is nice to install new and CLEAN stuff

Here I am making the rear speaker boxes airtight:

Rear insulation done, speaker boxes filled with polyfill:

Front also done:

The amplifier for the 8" subs will be installed under passenger seat, so cables must be routed there:

Last summer someone here told how it is possible to succesfully dye the original carpets to darker color. Tested that and failed miserably. Stopped experimenting after one sill and decided to replace the whole carpet.

Well, now in the end I will not be using the black sill carpets after all.
