Lt1?
As you know by this question I am new to corvettes.
How do I know if I have a LT1,LT4 or whatever it may be.
All I know is that it is a 1986 5.7 tuned port injection coupe with the tara top.Automatic tranny.

I think you have a L98. Lt1 came out in 91/92? LT4 was 96 with a 6 speed only. The LT1, maybe LT4 also uses what is called an Optical Spark Distributor, it is mounted in the front of the engine behind the water pump. If your car has a distributor on top of the engine against the firewall you do not have an LT1.

The LT1 came out in 1992. It was in use until 1996 in the Vette, 1997 in the Fbodies.
The LT4 was in 1996 (and some VERY RARE 1997 Camaro/Firebirds). It is a development of the LT1. The LT4 came ONLY in manual transmission equipped C4s. The LT1 was in the automatic equipped cars.
The distributor is simply called the Optispark. And yes, it is below and behind the waterpump.
