96 AC Question
Yesterday I started my 96 and the a/c would not come out of the panel vents. It was on auto so I changed over to the panel position with no change. I didn`t drive the car any where but was just wondering if anyone else has run into this problem and what to do to correct this.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.
I'm having the same problem w/my 96. After driving for 10-12 minutes the air starts flowing through the vents but if I stop the car and restart it's another 10-12 minutes before air comes through the vents again?!??!

I'm having the same problem, probably less than 10-12 min though. What's bothering me is it's causing condensation on the windshield that limits the forward visibility. I've checked vacum lines under the fuel rail covers any other ideas? Thanks,

Re: 96 AC Question (Eddie 96)
I don't know if the '96 HVAC control panels are similar to my '86... But, by using my '86 Shop Manuel, I was able to activate my control panel's diagnostic mode. It'll show you if all systems are working correctly and will also show you if any part of the HVAC system is malfunctioned If you have a shop manuel for the '96 model, it's worth a look.
guys, its the dreaded "a/c programmer" problem. i 'm having the same deal on my '96. i've heard its a $400-500 fix, but i'm waiting to take mine in.

Re: 96 AC Question (Mickey)
I wasn`t quite ready for the $400 or $500 fix. I just don`t drive the car very often which is probably the main problem any way. I will drive it tonight to work and see if it lasts for the 10-12 minutes that you other guys are saying.
I also think that there is a way to enter the diagnostic mode that was mentioned above on the 96. If anyone has any leads let us know. I was kind of hoping that maybe there was some way to reset the a/c and maybe take care of this. Wishful thinking huh? :yesnod:
Here's a web site with some information on the HVAC system diagnostic codes. It tells you how to enter the diagnostic mode. I hope this helps any of you who have a problem or just want to push some buttons and see what your system is up to. http://www.idavette.net/tech/c4diag.htm
I work at a chevy dealer and i have replaced quite a few a/c control modules totle cost was somthing like 5-600$$$. thank god i dont have climate control
I had that problem, it turned out to be a $0.50 plastic vacume line spliter under the hood. If memory serves me it was under the fuel rail on the right habd side. It was melted. Other form members lead me to check it first. Give it a try!

Re: 96 AC Question (peter34668)
Hey guys,
Thanks for all the replies. I will look at the plastic vacuum line splitter today and everything else that I can today. I will also check out the diagnostic mode just to see what is happening.
There is a vaccum check valve under the hood located near "hot" components that causes it to fail is probably the culprit. About a $5-7 fix. The problem starts out with the AC coming out the floor and defrost vents for a few minutes , then goes to the regular vents. It keeps getting worse until it just quits blowing all together (the fan actually blows but the vaccum to the vent doors does not operate). You may want to check this first.
