What is the CORRECT power steering fluid to use these days?
I need to add power steering fluid to my 95 A4.
The FSM says to use a synthetic meeting GM part # 12345866 or 867 however none of the synthetics that I can find in the store mention (valvoline or prestone) these particular GM part #s at all and say they meet the equivalent of GM 10008xxx.
Does anyone know what is the proper part # to look for in today's market place that will mix with what's already in the system?
Yes I know that I can use a turkey baster to remove all of the fluid that is in the reservoir however it will not get whats in the pump or in the lines to the rack.
Thanks for your help & education on this one.

I was at Gingerman raceway in South Haven, MI and needed some power steeriong fluid. They had valvoline synpower or something at the track and that is what I used to top of the reservoir.

I guess that what I'm really asking is it OK to mix valvoline synth with the synth that is in there now? or is there some issue such as with mixing dexcool with the green?

its like oil, this should mix with other brands just fine
preferably you'd find one with the same color fluid though, just so you can see when the fluid is going bad
Valvoline Synpower here
