anyone replaced breadbox with glovebox?
HI,
I got a glovebox (from a cf member) to replace the breadbox.
I removed the breadbox, and while testfitting the glove box, it appears that its too deep.
Behind the breadbox, there are 2 angled, molded pieces the seem to interfere.
Anyone done this mod, know where I may get directions, or have any clue what I'm missing?

The one thing I had to move is that VATS controler center of your picture......Think that's what it's called.......I just unplugged it and then stuck it under the plastic where it is attched now. Just took some electical tape and secured it to something under there where it would not rattle.......Don't remember having to do anything else........Been 3 or 4 years since I did it......Getting old and forgetfull.......I have some very light weight aluminum 1/2" angle pieces that I painted satin black and jiffy glued it to the shelf that your bread box and this glove box sets on to hold the bottom in . You have to check to see where it will set to glue it in at the right place.......The top is held by your dash cover.....Both ends are held by by the dash trim........The glove box is made of plastic so I took a piece of black uphostery cloth and lined the inside of the box to deaden any sound...... As you can see my wife keeps it full of crap and we have not had any problems with it at all.......Best thing I've did to the car......These were made in California in the mid to late 80's........The company owner died and so did these boxes.......I got mine off Ebay, but have not seen another one for over a year........I would be glad to send you a piece of the aluminum angle it works great.......Put my picture on the forum to show others what it looks like installed..........

What I have is NOT complete...
Its missing the sleeve that makes it stand off.
Thanks for all your help
(why do I get the feeling this piece has been passed around here for a while?)

I'm not sure what you mean by a sleeve......The only thing that came with the kit is the black plastic glove box itself......When I got mine it was new in the box.......

Gazpar, if you decide not to use this piece I might be interested in it. I would need some pics and your price for it.

What I mean by sleeve is the "square tube" that makes it stand off the dash by 3-4 inches.
I bought it from chillcat (allegedy new), for $75. There was a small crack in the back corner which I have since fixed.
Because of the crack, he refunded me $25. ( I wish I had waited, and test fitted it before "settling up".)
The face of it looks nice, and secures nice and tight.
I'm not sure what my plans are with it. It wouldnt be that hard to mnake a small open-box, and attach it, but I'm not sure that the look that I'm going for. I think that its an oddity. (I like oddities, but an oddity on my shelf tends to get scratched up)
Midnight, if you want it, make me an offer, and/or send me your email address for pics. There are some pics in the old thread, and (besides for the epoxy on the back corner) it hasn't changed.
(At least I'm gonna be straight up, and let ya know what your gett'n) :P

The "housing/sleeve/tube/body" (whatever ya call it) is not present.
I attached a copy of Your car (lonestar) so that viewers can see what Its SUPPOSED to be like.

So all you have is just the door as it appears down in my picture......If so send it back to who you got it from, without the glove box you have nothing........

Your's is a bit different than mine......Mine is deeper and formed to the contour of the plastic ribs that you see in your first picture.......But you do have the box and it should not be too hard to install it if you want to go to the trouble of fitting it. The real problem I see with it is that there is nothing to hold it into the opening.......My box has a flange around it like the stock bread box and is held in much like it is......This box has nothing there to do that.......You will have to fabricate a something to hold the box in place.......

Isn't there sort of a sleeve on the stock breadbox that can be reused? Mine looks like it's two pieces. A hard rubber outer part that goes around the cushion.

Or take hardboard, cover it with Vinyl, and just make the box.
Thats not the look I was going for. Wanted it Flush.
Anyone got anything to trade for ?
