Default Rear Defroster Non-Operational

So my back window gets a little fogged up today and I switch on the RWD - but nothing ever happens. I notice there are two connectors on the rear window struts and I have to ask why as there is no corresponding plug at the other (far) end of the strut leading to the defroster (as on my 1988 IROC). The strut itself has the connector but no plug is seen coming from the defroster's leading edge/termination point. Something must be wrong here yes? Shouldn't there be another plug coming from both sides of the defroster strip at the edge of glass to attach to the other end of strut? Does someone have a picture of how it should look - I think mine is missing something (duh).

Yep, sounds like you are missing something. Heres a shot of my rear defrogger connection.

CorvetteFever magazine (on-line edition) has a how-to-fix rear defogger tech tip in their weekend projects section. Check it out.

Thanks for the pic - mine is clearly missing this connection as I had suspected (well, having an IROC I actually knew it was missing). Guess it's time to get the soldering gun out and fab one up from parts I'll pocket from the U-Pull-It.

Made a couple of connectors, soldered them on to tends of the defroster strip and - voila! - defroster works like a charm.

http://www.frostfighter.com/

I came across this web site that sells repair kits that use conductive epoxy to secure new tabs to the glass. There are actual metal particles in the epoxy that cause it to be conductive. I used this method on my daily driver's convertible back window because I was afraid I would crack the glass with the heat while soldering. It's just an alternative solution and since the back window on these Vettes is about $700, might be worth a shot.

Default Defroster connector

Does any body know where I can get the connector that attaches to the strut?

GM has the plastic body that can be ordered, but we would have to "make something work"

Thanks in advance.

I got mine from the Auto Parts Store, Electrical Dept. Fairly basic piece of hardware.
