Got 135 in my 92 and was very smooth, but 3 reasons why I had to slow down 1. my license,2.I was running out of road,3.I was too chicken to take it any faster, it was fun but it wont happen again.PS. according to the build sheet I have Z-51 running gear also.

With a soon-to-be mostly stock 22 year old car, I felt a little uncomfortable when I approached 90mph on the Expressway passing in the left lane.
I quickly passed the row of cars, pulled over to the center lane, and got back down to 75mph, a very comfortable cruising speed, only to have my doors blown off by a 4 door Corolla (circa 1990) being driven by "Ugly Betty", who gave me the Evil Eye as she passed.
No high speed bragging from me, I know the car is capable of much higher speeds, I just don't feel the need to find out what that speed is.
Perhaps I'm getting too old for that kind of stuff, I just enjoy cruising around on the occasional weekends of late spring-summer-early fall.
Back to hibernation for me.

The fun of owning/driving your vette is knowing that you can get to 160mph and have the power to do so. Had it up to 110 on a trip to Champaign, seen 134 in my former 2000 Prelude. Had the wifes 2001 S2000 up to 101 mph. Which car do I feel comfortable and safe at over 100, the vette. Do I have anything to prove by doing this, no. Its knowing that its there is all I have to know. Happy New Year

Ive been told, that at top speed, the C4 front spoiler (factory) almost touches the ground, due to the pressure exerted on the massive wedge that is the C4 Hood.
It makes sense, that the Z51 spoiler is a little lower, due to the stiffer springs, so I tend to think it is plausable, if anyone knows..hook me up.
So yeah, In a old charger, or an old nova...I can see the nose getting light..hell, my dad says he hit 130 in his 68 Road Runner, and he said that the thing felt like it was going to lift the front tires up it was so light. But in a C4...no way
Mine felt really good up until it got over 110, then the road bumps started to make me uneasy..something that is a mild dip at 55, is a hard jolt @ 115!
I got up to 130, I was pleased, so I backed off...At that speed, there is 0 room for error, you cant move the wheel.

the shape of the C4 does keep it held down at high speeds, but before you get there, there is an area of 10-15mph. where the front tends to lift up before the downforce on the hood counter effects it. the reason the front lifts up is the massive amount of air that is being sucked under the car to feed the engine at thoes rpm's

92 vert with the top down reached 120mph. Camber brace, cross-bar, and boxed X-frame along with stock suspension. It had more but the dust from the floor started to get everywhere. Reminded me of a low level run in the Air Force, except for all the wind noise.

Up to 135 mph she felt fine after that it seemed the whole car lifted up about 1 inch. I held it there for about 15 seconds, and then pinned it again. The Speedo read 156 mph on a slight downhill when sanity took over and I slowed down to 100. This was on a new section of Highway that was not opened to the public yet. That was also 8 years ago. My usual cruising speed is about 80 mph if conditions warrant.

Melting Slicks
Maybe 90 but that's more the result of trying to avoid a ticket than fear the car wll become unstable. I'd love to take it to the track and run it all out, but there aren't any nearby. Them's the breaks of living in the boonies.

Don't you just love the imagination racers who insist their C-4 front ends get light at around 120 or 130 or so!
Just for the record guys - the front end of a C-4 does not get light at speed - in fact the car produces more down force - it gets more stable at speed! So a few people need to ammend their imagination racer stories to exclude the "front end got light" analogy - it's a dead giveaway to those who have really gone that fast - as soon as we see it - we see flashing on the screen!

I dont know if that qualifies as a "light" or "floating" front end, but it is similar.

141 in my 03 vert with the top down. Smooth as a ride could be.

What a kick reading through the remarks.
This reminds me of something that happened about 25 years ago, when I was a staff editor for a motorcycle magazine. I was out test-riding a Honda CX500 Turbo - a prototype, and one of the very first of those in the country. This model bike wouldn't be available for sale for... like another 3 months.
I had pulled off at a roadside grocery store near the top of Mt Palomar, in California. Was off the bike, sipping a soda, and smoking a cigarette.
A California Highway Patrol officer pulls in, steps out of his car, and looks the bike over. Nods to me, and asks:
"So ... how fast will it go?"
I look back at him... look at his CHP car... look at the bike, and carefully replied:
"55 Miles Per Hour, officer."
He just about bust a gut laughing on his way into the store.
Methinks I got the answer right.

150 MPH daily on autobahn 73 in Germany. Did get her up to 162mph on Autobahn 6 near Stuttgart. It was pretty noisy with the Goodyear GSC's, but really nice and smooth with the Kumho MX's. Currently running Sumitomo HRZ's. Suspension remains stock. snapshot on my sig pic.

Depends entirely on the road. I was going smooth on a highway at 100mph, then picked it up to 150, and it felt like the grim reaper was rockin' my boat.
The C4s, especially the early ones, aren't very comfortable on rough pavement.

Hey knumb knutz,
Just got my Utah Salt Flats Racer org news letter yesterday - there it was in print for all to see - new 130 mph club member: Steve Finagian or however you spell it. So now nobody can call you a liar. see it wasn't a waste of money - 150 bucks plus trip expenses - it was all worth it!

Carl, I've seen legit sources that say exactly that, the front end generates lift at speed, with published #'s. From the factory, there is too much space under the air dam to keep it planted. Driving through air at 150mph is like driving through 2ft of snow at 20 mph.

I think your Dad's memory added about 10 MPH to his top speed on the 68 Roadrunner. Mine ran out of gears at about 120 MPH. That was stock with a good tune and American 100+ octane gas. IIRC mine had a 3 speed Torqueflite with a 3.73 rearend. If he did 130 his setup was different.
