Melting Slicks
Buying a car sight-un-seen is not as fearful as one might think. If you do you homework and communicate its a breeze. I bought my 96 vert on e-bay. Not only did I talk to the original owner, I also talked to the place where he traded it in (carmax), than spoke at length to the used car dealer who had bought it at auction and had it for sale on e-bay. In the end I was able to find out the amount given in trade and the amount the used car dealer paid for it at auction and the price I bought it at was only $900.00 more than what was given to the original owner at trade.
The big plus is that the used car dealer told me that when I came to pick up the car if it was not exactly as listed I could walk away without even a dime spent. When I won the auction he told me that he did not need a down payment because not only had we had such good communication throughout the process but that he was positive this is what I wanted.
In the end, not one bit of disapointment. It was exactly what I was looking for. 96 vert, red/black with low milage, 40,000 miles.
Welcome to the madness and nice car!!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong (and I hope that I am), but shouldn't the front bumper piece that divides the side and front marker lights be black like on the '92-'95 cars?
I know that the '96 cars had this area factory painted the body color of the car, and that in the '92 through '95 cars it was factory black (not painted)....but what about the '91?
This could indicate a repaint.

Beautiful car but even still I would NEVER buy a car sight unseen. Who knows what kind of gremlins could be hiding... For all you know it could have a blown motor... Let me tell you a quick story. My buddy bought this gorgeous GTA back when we were in highschool and he had it for a couple weeks when he heard a wraping in the bottom end... long story short he took it to a mechanic and the mechanic found out it had a spun bearing and the dealer put a heavy weight oil in it to hide the wraping. because he bought it out of state it was now his problem.
by the way not trying to be a stickler on details but if you look real close at this pic you can see cracks in the paint on the hood.

i might add, that i know this car is not going to be perfect - period. but then again, its less than $9K. from what i have been told, and what i can see in the pics, most, if not all are minor issues. from the owners write-up, the damn thing sounds like a decent USED car, and again, it's not going to be perfect - its 16 years old. if its not everything he, the owner, said in his write-up, i can always walk away from it. the most i'm out is $500 at that point. i'm going to pick it up sunday, so i guess from the drive home, i learn a lot more about this car. i'll let you know. thanks for all the input - good, bad, or indifferent -

I was stationed there at Willow Grove and lived in the Hatboro area. Your car will be fine because everyone that owned a Vette in that area all belonged to the local Corvettes of Delaware Valley Club and have weekly car shows in the summer at the Warminster PEP Boys. They are all fanantics about their cars so if the previous owner was a member he would have been peer pressured weekly to keep it nice. It is beautiful. Enjoy the car.

I agree with the previous poster that this is definitely a repaint. Only the 96's had the litle strip on corner of front bumper painted body color. The earlier models had the strip painted black.
The seller clearly states that the car has original paint and that is not true!!!!

This is a true statement... but the C4 is a little more rust resistant and being a rear drive sports car, is a real handful in the snow/slush without ASR!!!

I'm pretty sure that Joe knows what he is getting into after his last post. He's not naive about the situation and he's gotten good advice on what to look out for, and he realizes that it's a used car. I think you've done OK, enjoy the new ride. And definitely let us know how the ride home goes.

From this picture it looks like somebody had the hood open and took the radiator cap off and set it on the reservoir....then the hood fell down on the cap and cracked the hood. The same thing happened to my '90 about 4 months ago.
