Did you have to scrube it or just let it soak(sp?) in the carb cleaner?
I first sanded it with 100 grit, then let it soak for about 30 seconds or so. It sucks and takes along time.
I'll post pics of the radio bezel later today.

Yeah it really blows striping off that stinking rubber. I just did mine awhile back, but I polished the plastic it instead of painting. That flat black looks really sharp though. nicely done!

Damn, that looks good.

I did the radio trim last weekend. I think I didn't sand enough with the fine grit to get the larger grit scratches out. On the first few coats some surface scratches still showed through. It took about 5 or so think coats before they started to disappear. I think I'm going to resand again this weekend using more grits in between and use the primer that CAP94 used. Be carefull using the carb cleaner it worked excellent for removal of the rubber but I started seeing surface cracks in the plastic. I think it may have been because I was doing it in the sun. I'm still going to use it on the rest of the trim.

Thanks also to Gator79 for giving me the tip and paint code.

Sweet! Now hold on to your beer can a little tighter when you go into a curve. That's probably how you messed up the old one.

Very nice! I will be doing this also, since the rubber on my console is coming off.

You could finish it off with one of these stickers: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/C4-CO...08699172QQrdZ1

Default Just did my console

Saw the work you did and had to try. I used the same Krylon primer and paint as you. The job came out great!!!!!!!!!!! It looks better that new. I also cleaned the shifter boot and put some shoe polish on it. It looks new again also. And then I used plastic polish to clear up the clear shifter indicator lens(it was discolored due to age and came out as good as new) and repainted the pointer with hobby paint. It made such a change. Thanks alot guys for all of these great tips.

You did one hell of a job. When you post before and after pictures and describe how you did the work, it gives others the confidence and know-how to tackle it themselves. Thanks for sharing and congrats on a job well done. When will you be here to do mine?
